Unfortunately, this once-beloved Pasadena establishment has seen a decline in quality. I used to enjoy dining at El Cholo when it was located on Fair Oaks. However, when they moved to the mall, I was concerned that maintaining a space in a mall would require extra effort. Unfortunately, they have not lived up to that expectation. The atmosphere feels disorganized and unclean, with dirty walls, chipped paint, and mismatched lights that detract from any potential ambiance. The overall atmosphere is depressing and the food is average at best. It's a shame to see such a decline in quality.
Been coming here well over 10 years. The shrimp tacos and margueritas never disappoint.
The food at this restaurant was not up to par compared to previous years. The enchilada and beans were overcooked and the chicken in the taco was dry. There was no host or hostess at the front desk to welcome guests, and one couple even left due to the long wait. After waiting 5-7 minutes, a server reassured us that someone would assist us, but no one ever did. Another server finally directed us to a table.
The food is delicious, the waitstaff is attentive, and the atmosphere is super nice. Best of all, it's all reasonably priced.
