About half an hour after I finished eating I started having terrible stomach cramps, to the point where I didn't even want to stand up. The next day, I was thinking about what it could have been and remembered my intolerance to MSG. I decided to call the restaurant and the host confirmed with the cook that they did use MSG for that dish. I explained to her that they need to put that on the menu because I have a serious intolerance to that ingredient and they need a warning for it. She asked if I wanted to speak with the manager, and I said yes. After waiting on hold for close to minutes, Robert came to the phone. He was very apologetic and said they used to be an asian fusion restaurant so it's possible they still used MSG and he would find out for sure even though it had already been confirmed and then alert the staff and put it on the menu. He assured me he would call me back and never did. This is a very serious issue that was simply not addressed as such. The level of service I received regarding this was completely unacceptable. MSG is a highly toxic food additive that is sneakily used in a lot of restaurants not just asian now apparently without any kind of warning. Please be careful from now on and check with your server whenever you're eating out anywhere. I definitely will not be returning to this place
The foods favor need to be more authentic n less sweet for Asian foods.Lighter on the sweet black sauce. Correct name for some of the dishes for eg. Vermicelli is not the same as chow mein
Aside from having great coffee and amazing bar service, Equator is important to Old Town because it provides a space where locals can meet up. Not only has it become the hub where my friends and I gather for dinner martini and jazzwine nights midweek are a great idea and very affordable!, but it's also provided chances to meet new Pasadena friends. The bartenders and wait staff know a big portion of the crowd, are friendly and attentive, and are helpful at making introductions. Overall, this place provides good food and drinks over which you can gather with friends
I've eaten at Equator in the past and was very disappointed with my last experience. I went a Tuesday night which was martini nightthere's a reason they're offering them for doubt if there's any alcohol in them they do NOT taste good. The appetizers we ordered were mediocre at best and the service out on their patio was SLOW. I used to recommend this place to others. Now I question whether I'll ever go back
Stumbled across the Equator Cafe in Millers Alley. Neat location, tucked off Colorado. We sat in the alley at an outside table, and we really liked being part of the street scene. having lived overseas, it felt very European. Great service by Angel, she was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of menu. Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was a real treat. Korean Spare Ribs were tasty, but a tiny bit tough. Chicken pineapple curry was nicely flavored. I'd go back
