I heard great things about their cakes and burger ha. we shared the big ben combo, two eggs breakfast and apple cake. the burger was quite large and juicy and we asked for extra grilled and raw wobble. the pommes were crispy, but with some salsa and ketchup it was good. the eggs came with a nice little yogurt over the medium. the salsa made it and the hatch-brown well seasoned. pie disk was heated after serving. Apple was a little soggy, but the crust held together. bathroom might use some update. there were some flying or mosquitoes blowing over the drains.
We really enjoy a good diner, especially one that embodies Americana! We also love the baked goods here: I’m particularly fond of the youngberry cake, while my friends adore the chocolate cake. However, our last visit was disappointing. First off, it’s cash only, which was a surprise. We had to pay a $4.50 fee for using the ATM. We ordered a couple of cakes totaling $17, and I rarely comment on food prices, but these seemed quite steep. We waited 15 minutes while the waitress chatted with other guests and took new orders before she finally brought us our desserts. It was a letdown.
I worked at Caltech for 20 years, and during that time, I dined at Pie & Burger approximately once a week. It's one of the best, if not THE BEST, burgers I've ever had. The pies are also quite impressive! I certainly endured my fair share of teasing from the waitresses over the years. On the day my mother passed away, one waitress made a point to tell all the others and even the grumpy chef that I had a "Baddy Addy Bad attitude." So, while it may not be the place for therapy, definitely swing by for a burger and a slice of pie!
I 've come to Pie 'n Burger only twice and both times it did not disappoint! The first time I went to Pie 'n Burger was when COVID started, so I only got take out. This second time I got to enjoy the dining experience. If you can eat a lot then I would recommend the Big Ben burger combo (don 't order sides since that is a lot . I got the hamburger w/ cheese combo and a vanilla shake. It filled me up even with me sharing the shake with my wife. I 'd recommend bringing cash beforehand. It 's a tad bit expensive and the ATM charges 2.50 if you pull money out. The is one of my top 10 burger joints in LA (same league as: Apple Pan, Amboy, Burgers FT Win, etc. .
I had an overall good experience here. The service was friendly and the food wasn't too slow to get to me. Something to note the TAKE CASH ONLY. Does seem a bit crazy to only take cash in the year 2022, but I suppose it fits with the ambience. THERE IS AN ATM. It is a smaller and busy place, and i'm not sure if they don't have AC or if it was broken, but it was incredibly warm when I visited. Overall i would recommend this restaurant.
