Today we ordered a chicken katsu don (miso soup included) and 3 salmon avocado rolls. I was very disappointed with everything. The chicken Katsu don meat tasted old, as if it had been cooked previously and re-heated today. Also, the rice was burnt! And there was a lot of moisture at the bottom of the bowl. The sushi rolls were warm and bland in taste even though it appeared very presentable. The salmon in the roll didn't even reach the bottom. About 2/3 of the way down the roll, there was no more salmon! The highlight of the meal was the small bowl of miso soup.
Great selection of quick bite bento and rolls but was having a craving for Takoyaki and they fo theirs here on a skewer!!! Nice, freshly made, crunch on the outside and soft chewy filling on the inside. Exactly what i came in for!!!
As it is in good courts you have a range of average Bain Marie type set ups, fast food joints and some cook to order placed. Asakaze certainly falls in the latter. They have pre-made sushi like most other Japanese places but their hot menu is made to order. As it was evening they had a special on their sushi rolls so tried the Tofu Vegie Roll & Teriyaki Chicken Roll. Slightly dry on the edges which is understandable as later in the evening this the special. Tofu one had most of the flavour on the outside due to the Inari type skin they wrapped around it. The Teriyaki one was full of flavour. I also tried the Chicken Udon. I love a good bowl of udon and when I passed this outlet I knew I had to try. I was not disappointed! The chicken had a nice teriyaki glaze to it. The udon was cooked well and had nice pieces of mushroom throughout it. The best part was the broth. I could've kept drinking that all night. I would've been content with just noodles and that broth (that's how good I found it!).

I always find the made-to-order dishes at food courts are a million times better than the ready-made ones even though there is a bit of a wait. Today I decided to get the chicken katsu don which comes with miso soup for an affordable $11.50. It's a pretty big serving so it's great value and comes out steaming hot which is awesome. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the addition of the gooey egg was divine. This place is definitely worth another visit. They have recently introduced a curry katsu which is one of my favourite Japanese dishes! medium.com
