The seared ahi tuna appetizer was SO good. Our waiter reccomended the Australian wagyu to go with the hot pot and it was worth it! Great atmosphere as well.Food: 5/5
I have been a loyal lover of Kuchu Shabu since it was originally at the Redstone location. I was thrilled when I saw it was in slc but today there was a bug in the fresh before begins of my pho! This is disgusting and sorely disappointing! I hope this is addressed as this bug was alive meaning it had not been washed at all.
We had a great experience here. We called ahead as we had a large party of people 15. They told us when we could be there and how long we had the table. All the food was great. I loved my ramen. Others got the hot pots. They enjoyed them and good the sever gave tips on how to best cook and eat the food. They had a kids ramen which was great for us. Only issue was it was very warm in the restaurant. To be expected with all the hot pots. Just need to be dressed appropriately. A few in our party were wearing heavy sweaters.
I gave this place 3 stars: 4 for food, 2 for service Food: To start off, I am of Japanese descent so I am a little particular about shabu shabu, ramen, gyoza and the like. I 'd skip the gyoza unless you really want it. The ramen is more than acceptable. I really liked the shabu shabu (i went with the traditional sauce). Note, you really need meat in the shabu shabu as it adds to the broth flavor as you cook it so not worth the vegetarian options if that 's your thing. In a proper city, I 'd give the food a 3 in a resort area, a 4 . Prices are PC prices, what can you do. Service: First off, being closed until 5pm is a big loss for this place. People ski until 2 3 usually so leaving the area to come back likely loses customers but they might not care about that. Also, their (lack of) reservation system is pretty lame. Their website touts a virtual waitlist but none of that was active while we were there. Our server left much to be desired. In attentive most of the night and didn 't listen to customers. We had a adult and child sitting next to each other and for whatever reason, made them share a shabu shabu order. Uhhh, they wanted 2 different orders and you would make more money ... hello? At the end, he doesn 't give us the bill and just tells us how much we owe. For a group of 8, I think we 'd like to review the bill, thanks. I have never seen that move before. This place could be so great. Effort matters and this place is lacking it.
