(they could spend almost so much on an almost food place for the complete garbage will definitely be back!
As always. great service, great atmosphere. had the caramel-flame desert, super yum. I whipped it before I got a picture.
As other reviewers mentioned, the service is a bit slow. It seems to be run by a mom and her kids. Or maybe 2 moms and their kids, but it’s not what you’d call professional waitstaff. More like ‘trying their best to be helpful’. (Similar vibe to Humdingers in Palmer, but far far better food here). If you can set that shortcoming aside, the offerings are worth waiting for. Delicious authentically prepared Greek food, fresh ingredients and made on the spot. The menu is not extensive but offers a decent variety. Prices on the higher side for a cafe, but well worth it for the quality of the food. Plan on $15-25 per person. Serving sizes are generous for the most part. A cup of soup is tiny at $7, get the large bowl for $1 more. It’s not a fancy or well decorated dining area, almost more of a nice school cafeteria feel. You can tell it was not designed as an eatery, rather, a cheap boxy ‘anything’ commercial property rented to have adequate space. There’s a front entrance that’s sort of hidden, and the main entrance is in the rear, but no signage to help you find it. As with many such places, the walls are filled with several local artist’s work that can be purchased. Smart! Why pay an interior designer when you can collect commissions instead? One review described it as a dark cave, but we felt it to be bright and well lit in the larger dining area, and slightly less in the side area (which was still far from dark The atmosphere is definitely ‘diner’ not intimate. We look for 3 main things when eating out- delicious high quality food, cleanliness, and a friendly staff. Sophias offers all 3 without fail. We could see the entire kitchen and it was spotless. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working together. The service may not be stellar but the staff is cheerful and mistakes corrected quickly with a smile and apology. We’re okay with that! Would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or lunch, or just as a coffee shop.
