This place exceeded my expectations. Everything I tried from the buffet tasted fresh, rather than like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for ages. The chicken, both white and dark meat, was of high quality with no unpleasant bits of gristle or other unchewable parts that are often found in lower-quality establishments. The crab Rangoon was excellent, and even the rice was surprisingly good, avoiding that dried-out texture that often happens when it’s overcooked in a steamer. The sushi was another pleasant surprise. I generally don’t set high expectations for buffet sushi, especially in a small-town setting, where it’s not common to find decent options. Yet, the sushi here was tasty, even though the selection was limited to just one type of roll. My only complaint is that the interior was a bit dark, despite having unobstructed windows and the sun shining outside. It’s a personal pet peeve of mine; I believe buffets should maintain a clean and bright atmosphere to convey that they’re high-quality establishments. Unfortunately, buffets often get a reputation for being dark and unclean, so I encourage owners to improve their lighting to make their spaces more welcoming and appealing. Overall, aside from the lighting issue, I was genuinely impressed by this restaurant. For a small-town Iowa buffet, it was very good.
I wouldn't give this place any stars because the food was really disappointing. I'm worried we might even get sick from it. The owner also serves as the waitstaff, which is unusual. The food was stale and unappetizing. I left a note for him, hoping that he will read it and realize the restaurant needs an update. The seats are old and cracked, and you risk tearing your clothes when you sit down.
Ah, sushi! Well, more specifically maki! They also offer cooked fish. The evening buffet costs a bit more, but they do add some extra items to the food bar! I recommend arriving early; 5 PM is the best time, and it gets busy quickly! They have a variety of flavors here, and the crab Rangoon is excellent! There are two kinds: one sweet and one savory. For dinner, they serve steak stir-fry. Additionally, there's a salad bar with pudding for dessert. Yes, they also have ice cream that you can scoop yourself. Overall, it's a decent value for the money!
Food has been so much better ! you can really tell the improvements -along with the people who are very helpful and will put out anything that runs out or you would like ! Always one of my favorite places to go !
Stopped in for lunch as I had a Drs Appointment in Pella. Food is your average Americanized Chinese. They did have a Baked Crab dish which got them the extra star. Some entree's were Dried out and fresh was brought out around dinner time. So go early for lunch and hit dinner around five. The Cucumber Kimchi was also good.
