Personally I have had better sushi from the sushi booths in the mall. The food is not memorable. You know when you can say to someone.. Omg go to ,,,,,, and try the ,,,,, this resturant does not get this from me. Would not eat or order from here again as it was just ok. I woukd need to be very hungry to revisit. Staff also just. Ok..nothing brag home about.1
We were a group of 10 friends out for a week-day lunch.Good points: Most of the food was fresh, tasty, prepared well. Some of hot dishes we ordered were fresh out of the fryer and nice and hot! The tempura and sushi rolls were my favourite menu items - they were good, nicely prepared, decent flavour. The service was pretty good, pretty quick. Based on the food alone, and the lunch price, I would eat here again.Bad points: Some of the food was kind of bland/boring/tasteless. For example, the wonton soup broth tasted like water with green onion in it. There was no "broth" taste, like chicken broth or beef broth, at all. The General Tao chicken was just sugary syrup sauce, very little heat. The ginger chicken was also just sugary syrup sauce with very little ginger flavour. Also, my friend had a birthday in December. They supposedly offer a free meal if your birthday was this month. When they brought the bills, my friend asked for her free birthday meal and they said no, because they had already printed out the bill. "Once is it printed out", they say, "the customer must pay". Apparently you have to state BEFORE your bill comes that you want a free birthday meal. We did not know that, so that was disappointing.I don't understand why they cannot reverse the bill in their cash register/computer once it's printed. I think that is stupid.I also post this to warn others expecting a free birthday meal - 1) declare it as soon as you walk in the door, and 2) declare it again when they ask about bringing the bill!!!!Otherwise a nice lunch out!! :)
My first experience with Rainbow Sushi was good. I prefer brown rice and it's hard to come by at many sushi joints, but it's offered at Rainbow. The sushi was good, even if it didn't knock my socks off. It was only $1 more for brown rice across my large order, and the salmon belly appetizer was a standout (get it without the sauce). We then took the family to dine in. It was a disaster. The server couldn't understand us, perhaps, but ultimately brought us things we didn't order -- drinks and food alike. At least 50% of our order was wrong. (Thank God for all you can eat!) It was $2 extra for all of my and my husband's sushi orders to be brown rice, which I thought was fair. But for some reason, the food wasn't as good dining in and because the service was SO, SO, SO bad, we decided we would stick to takeout. I've gotten takeout from here at least 15 times, and every single time, they charge me a random amount for brown rice; sometimes $1 for my order, and sometimes $4. I AM ORDERING THE SAME THING EACH TIME. Finally, when they told me $4, I questioned why and they didn't really have an answer ("that's what it is"). That was the last time I went. The sushi just isn't good enough to warrant the inconsistent pricing.
Went there with family for my daughter's 18th birthday dinner. She recommended this restaurant. The food was delicious and filling. The place is small and the staff appear unfriendly. Due to language barrier it was a bit difficult to communicate. Overall, delicious food and economical prices. Also, birthday person eats free. So that was a great bonus. Ohhh the ginger ice cream wow..loved it.
