This food shock has good food and is in a large small local market in a cool neighborhood. I come to the market and the opposite was a highlight of my trip. I left here and took a taxi back.
In the Merced market at the east end of Murgia street, there is one spot in the bakery section of the market called Florecita's. Completely typical Mexican food, prepared deliciously. It has been packed every time we have eaten there, only a couple other foreigners...each time among the rows of shared tables. Go to the stall where they are cooking to visually choose what you want. They will make you scrambled eggs, but chicken tinga, sautéed mushrooms or huitlacoche (corn fungus) or some kind of pork sausage blend with some sort of chili sauce were my favs today. They make a beautiful tylauda as I saw the guy next to me eating. Try the hot chocolate with milk, it is extra rich. This and a bun from one of the numerous bakeries in this part of the market and it is enough. For four of us eating way too much it was $12 total.
