Altstadthof Braeustueberl - Nürnberg

The Altstadthof is located between the castle and the Marketplace. Great location, very nice food and they also serve a local sugar free cola that is very nice. The Goulash is great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Before leaving Nuremberg we wanted to taste red beer from Hausbrauerei Altstadthof, what better way than to combine it with a traditional meal of roast pork, sauerkraut or pickled red cabbage, two large potato dumplings, perfect crackling and gravy. Hausbrauerei Altstadthof is the oldest brewery in town, located near the foot of the Imperial Castle, beer has been brewing here since the 14th century. There were several bars/spaces within the hotel, on the evening of our visit we headed out the back to the small beer garden. We arrived at 1830 with no reservation, probably a good idea to do, but half the tables were empty, all had reserved signs on them, maybe a ploy of the establishment to control prospective patrons. The beer was cold and tasty, the meal was enormous by our standards, it was disappointing not to be able to finish our meals, such waste, so delicious. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. A very pleasant evening indeed.

A German brewery that produces its own brand of beer. You can taste different assortments. Tasty! In the lobby is the meeting point for the Nurnberg's undergrounds.

I had the pork schnitzel with bread added to the meal and a red beer. The food and beer were good. They have red, blonde and black beers plus others. If beer was calorie free, I would have tried more. I was disappointed that they only have one beer flight. They also have whiskeys too.Limited seating so reservations are highly recommended if you have a party larger than two. Because there was only one server working and the place was practical full, lack of beer flights and the limited seating is why I gave it four out of five.
