Staff was very nice and accommodating regarding my dietary requirements. All the items were fresh and tasted lovely. Well impressed on this visit.
Have eaten here on numerous occasions which prompted the family to book for Christmas lunch. Very disappointing. The roast potatoes were brown in the centre and inedible, Yorkshire puddings burnt, the fish option was served without a sauce. We were a party of 8 and not one of us could say we had enjoyed the meal. Will not returning.
We've eaten out on Christmas day for the past 6 years (apart from last year) with mixed results, 1 terrible and the rest quite good but Bateman's mill was by far the most relaxed, welcoming, value for money restaurant we've had the pleasure of spending our Christmas day with. Lets face it nowhere is going to be cheap on Christmas day but when you compare it with others in the area, Batemans comes out on the cheaper side, this seriously does not reflect is the service, quality, quantity or ambience. From the moment we entered, we was met by a big smile and a glass of bucks fizz. The service from moment we entered to the moment we left was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. We didn't wait long for drinks or food, very prompt but not rushed. Thank you to all the Staff at Batemans Mill for making our Day so special
I 'm really puzzled why Batemans does not feature higher in these ratings, OK, it 's not perhaps easy to find, but well worth the effort. My wife and I have eaten several times at Batemans, always at lunchtime, and have always been very happy with the standard here. Initially we used Groupon deals, what great value these represented, but now we are quite happy to pay normal prices, which are reasonable. This is does not fall into the trap of seeing and describing itself as a Gastro Pub the food is much better than that!! The menu is not massive, always a good thing in my eyes, but extensive enough to cater for most tastes. I have to confess that we struggle to order anything other than the steak pie which is spectacularly good. Proper tray baked pie with lovely shortcrust pastry and an ample filling of soft, tender meat. Accompanied by well cooked vegetables and excellent chips, this is the best steak pie to be had, and I count myself as something of an expert! The rest of the menu shows flair and imagination and has never disappointed when we have managed to get beyond the pie. Service is friendly and attentive, absolutely nothing to complain about in our experience. The ambience at Batemans is delightful if you like old world tradition and quality, most welcoming yesterday was a large roaring log fire, and tasteful Christmas decorations. Well done Batemans!
Visited for a family Christmas meal. Re-booked this restaurant after visiting 4 weeks ago and being very impressed. Unfortunately our second visit did not resemble the first. Menus not provided on arrival, menus were not taken away once we had ordered. 5 of the 13 meals ordered had to be sent back as cold (had been sat on the side as our starter plates were not cleared) no salt and pepper on the table. Cutlery was dirty and soup spoons not provided when ordered. The Camembert tart (only veggie option) was awful, you could see the half empty tart shell, the smallest amount of Camembert within. Mains plates were not cleared and had to be physically requested to be removed. Cutlery was dirty on the table. This was a family Christmas meal, no Christmas music, no crackers. Very loud thumping music, to the point where the waitress had to turn it down to take our order. Very disappointing.
