We should've known from the parking lot... (there was only 1 car . This place was something else. The staff are very friendly, but that's where it ended for me. Walking in the front doors, this place just felt dirty. The salsa was more water than anything... it was hardly even salsa. The chips didn't even taste good. They weren't stale, but the flavor was just weird! When the waiter refilled my glass of water (with warm water that melted all the ice, might I add.. I could see a couple of whiteish things floating around, probably from that nasty looking water pitcher... I chose not to even order anything off of the menu. My dad and husband each ordered something. My dad, 3 enchiladas. He said the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can and compared it to Chef Boyardee... My husband had the Pollo Loco and what he got was a single flat, dry piece of chicken that was hardly edible, but after a long day spent out on the water fishing, he was hungry enough- so he finished most of it. Overall, we all came to the conclusion that we will not be back.
I've enjoyed eating here over the years... something has changed...their salsa was disappointing. The spinach in my lunch omelet was canned.
Always a great dining experience everytime we come for dinner. Staff is always friendly and available. The authentic Mexican dishes are delicious.
I have been eating at Mi Hogar from time to time since the early 1990s when they were located across the street from Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia. They 're Granby Street location, since opening has been a place for myself, my daughters grandchildren to enjoy food beverages for a very long time. The staff is always kind, professional, accommodating, service is always spot on with respectively quick ticket times on food orders, food orders served hot fresh The fact that this family own establishment has been in Norfolk for as long as I can remember going back nearly a half a century is a testament that it has survived the test of time through local state national economic struggles, pandemics, small independent family-owned restaurant shut downs. I 'd like to believe that it 's still there for everyone to enjoy, what are the simple reason that it deserves to be. I highly recommend giving Mi Hogar Mexican Restaurant a try for a great family-friendly, business meeting friendly or solitary personal dining experience.
