Overall, it was not a pleasant experience and if I plan to return, I would simply settle with the Takeaway dishes because it looks much more appetit and fresh.
Blossoming Lotus is a vegetarian restaurant in Newtown which offers vegan versions of Thai and Southeast Asian dishes including papaya salad, sweet and sour meat' and roasted duck curry. The mock meats and seafoods were tastier than their authentic counterparts and servings were generous.
To satisfy our Thai craving, we visited this quaint little eatery in Newtown. What the place lacks in restaurant ambience, it more than makes up for in wonderful and tasty food. I took a curry plate, whereas my wife tried the Black Bean and Tofu Fry. Being used to and liking a spicy taste to the food, both of us found the dish to be on the bit blander side, which was fixed by adding some chilli sauce. However, the black bean and tofu fry was quite peppery and could have done with less pepper. ..
Blossoming Lotus in Newtown meets the criteria for vegans, students, quick lunch needs and just a plain old good cheap feed. Fill your plate for less than $10 and feel good about it. There's almost a spiritual presence in the back of Blossoming Lotus. There's a Buddhist shrine, statues of gods and a frieze at the back wall which possibly represents the story of the Dragon King and the lotus flower. Basically a story of a man down on his luck, daughter gets sacrificed to a dragon, she turns into a lotus, falls in love with the Emperor and meets her blind father once more at the wedding. Usual family stuff.
Many years ago, when I worked in Newtown, before my weekly reiki practice sessions, I would often eat with a colleague, who was vegetarian. This was probably our favourite place. I’m glad to see it’s still around, well-loved by Zomato, and still serving tasty food. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, and I like that feel. From my work trips in Bangkok around that time, I can tell you that this place has got a very similar feel to casual eateries dotted around the city.
