The food was ok, the nasi goreng the best dish we had very nice but serving a bit small. Mango sauce didn’t have much flavour. Veggies a bit flat. A bit pricey perhaps considering meal sizes. But in saying all that we would probably go back for another try.
A work colleague and myself had been discussing options of visiting a Thai restaurant in Launceston whilst there on a business trip. This is a case of where you should judge a book by its cover, the building hasn’t seen a whole lot of love in its recent times and sadly this applies to the meals. On arriving the waiter seated us and promptly disappeared, only to return 3 minutes later with no introduction but only to start standing there with a pen in silence looking like he had better things to do. My colleague ordered the “BBQ” Prawns and the “Green Curry” and I ordered the Gai Loong Soong “Deep fried chicken covered in mango Sauce” After around 15 minutes my colleague received the entree. The only thing BBQ in these prawns is that they were possibly transported on a shipping container along side BBQ’s heading to be sold at Bunnings. Here sat 4x prawns layered on top of what appeared to be 4 day old lettuce Browned on most if not all edges that had likely been removed from the freezer and then microwaved for 60 seconds on defrost. Green Curry The flavor was passable, however the consistency was something that appeared out of a children’s bottle of glue reminiscent of clag We Strangely found rice noodles hidden away in the broth which is an unusual combination for something that is from Thailand Colleague has spent many years on Thailand Serving size was on the small side. The accompanying rice which is normally a free of charge was an additional extra. The rice was overcooked and possibly a close relative to the Clag Glue in the broth. Gai Loong Soong If you were to compared this meal to a wet paper bag, you would be convinced the wet paper bag would taste better. The chicken was soggy and carried with it zero flavor. I was hopeful that the small mango dish provided would hopefully give it some zest but sadly it too must have been closely sourced from the same location that the lettuce has come from, which had also been used as a base for the this meal. The only real surprising thing from this restaurant was the price, for the small serving size, poor food tastes, and lacking experience. This meal was not worth the price of admission. We were both strangely surprised at the amount of good reviews this place has, yet compared to the experience we received we are suspect that some reviews are fabricated or perhaps that the restaurant must be under new ownership since those reviews have been posted. Perhaps an internal review is desperately needed to return this place to its former glory that we have read so much about.
I ordered takeout from this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was great. However, I was surprised by the price of $25.90 for a green chicken curry to go, especially since the website advertised a lower price. If the website had been updated to reflect the actual price, I may have chosen to order from somewhere else or make the curry at home. It's disappointing that in Tasmania, with the lowest wages and commercial rents in the nation, dining out can still be so expensive for a simple meal.
The restaurant has lovely decor and beautiful Thai tableware. The curry was very good, but the satays were a bit dry and lacked an authentic flavor on the meat. Overall, the dining experience felt lackluster, and some more enthusiasm and passion in the food would greatly improve the overall quality.
Went there on a Sunday night in August 2020. We were the only group there, but that was certainly not a problem and were openly welcomed. The host, (the owner), was inviting, welcoming, very helpful and captivating! Nothing was a problem at all and the service was impeccable..The young front of house manager was receptive, switched on and extremely welcoming what an asset! The food was divine, meals were very well portioned and well priced. The whole experience was awesome! Would highly recommend!
