Asa-Don - Newcastle

Casual setting with good food. Enjoyed a quick meal of Gyoza, miso soup and chicken teriyaki before a movie.

Came here to treat my lady for her birthday. It did not disappoint. After an initial concern over a booking time and a finish time, the night was great.Most of the staff were very friendly and polite and a quaint little atmosphere added to the occassion. It was the food though, that really gave Asa Don our tick if approval.Very fresh, very quick and very delicious. The teryaki salmon was out of this world. Also ordered was tempura don, tempura udon and pork gyoza. Every dish was amazing.

Delicious, authentic Japanese food in a lovely indoor/outdoor setting. Udon and stock were hand made, tempura was light and crust, teriyaki salmon fresh and perfectly cooked. Chilli cucumber dish is a must to start. Service was excellent and the staff were super friendly. Hands down the Best Japanese food we've had since we visited Japan.

Came here after the movies for a quick bite. Our friends had eaten there before and said the food was good, but it certainly didn't live up to their memory. Minute portions of poorly prepared food (2 prawns and 4 undercooked pieces of vegetable in the Tempura Don, and the pork in another dish was so tough it was practically inedible) and the service was very scatty. We elected to share our dishes and informed the waiter when we ordered, but the first dish sat in front of us for some time without plates or bowls from which to eat it. We only received them after we eventually caught the waiter's attention and asked - she seemed surprised by the request.We sat in the courtyard which is quite pleasant, but we all noticed a very strong smell of gas which was certainly NOT pleasant.To be fair they were extremely busy, which may explain the inadequate service, but the food was seriously unimpressive and we won't be back!
