The Stagecoach Inn Restaurant - Newboro

This is such a cute little town Stage Coach, Sterling Lodge and Kilborns are all a must to visit walking distamce from Newboro Locks

Couple of years since we ate here and since I reviewed, as have not been in the area.Great to see that it is still going strong and we same charming host.We were mob handed , seven plus the baby.Three of us had the walleye, fab. Daughter in law had a salmon burger and declared it delicious. Others had lamb souvlaki, soup.At last visit I loved the poutine which is no longer on offer.Also maybe a steak could be added.Great local beer, a Beau.

We called in today for a late lunch. The quiche and soup was very good but the lamb souvlaki, cooked outside on what was presumably a charcoal stove, was amazing. The lavender and lemon cheesecake was very, very good. I am very surprised that this little restaurant is not better known. The service was attentive and the background music unobtrusive (a gentle jazz selection).

Party of 8 with reservations for 7. Quaint decor, our waitress was good. Drinks and apps were good. Being able to bring your own wine with a $10.00 corkage fee is a nice option. Of the party of 8, seven of us ordered the prime rib special. We were not asked how we wanted our prime rib. Several of us did state our preference. When the mains arrived most plates were medium rare except one plate was really rare and another was quite well done. After some discussion between us and no staff intervention the two with the rare and well done swapped plates. About a third of the way through my meal I cut into a portion of my beef and exposed a significant amount of fat cap that was tucked under the serving of beef. As I removed it the piece was so large I had to place it on my bread plate. Two others from our party experienced similar issues, excessive fat in the serving of prime rib. After we had finished I approached our server and another waiter and explained my concern over the amount of fat. The waiter attempted to explain marbling in prime rib. I explained to the waiter that I was a very experienced home chef and was very familiar with prime rib and that this was not marbling. Neither server offered to come over to our table but the fat was clearly visible when they cleared the table. The next day I contacted the Stagecoach Inn as there was no management representation there at the end of the evening on Friday. The person there took my name and number as the owners were away for the weekend. I received a voice message on Monday from one of the managers. We eventually spoke on Wednesday. I recounted my experience to him. His response was to explain how they wrapped the fat cap around the roast during cooking. I explained that only three of the servings had excessive fat. He went on to digress about beef prices last fall and finished by telling me he would speak to his chef. These responses in no way addressed my disappointment in our dinner. A party of eight spends a significant amount of money in his establishment, has a serious concern and doesn't receive a proper response? I believe what took place is we came in at seven ordered 7 prime rib dinners and they did not have enough prime rib left to serve seven plates so they used the ends including the fat cap. If this in fact the case our server should have come back to us after taking our order and explained to us that there were not seven servings of prime rib available. Having situations happen in business are common. Not ensuring the customer is satisfied with an unfortunate situation is unacceptable. Competition is too fierce. I will not be returning.

We went to Newboro to see the Kilborn store. I checked TripAdvisor and there are only two restaurants in town, with very similar ratings. I went with this one as it looked very nice from the outside. I had the fish and chips which came with a small side of coleslaw. The fish was walleye which is a fishy fish. The fish and fries were perfectly cooked and tasty. My husband had a chicken wrap with fries which he enjoyed. The service was excellent. I would recommend eating here if you are planning to visit Kilborns.
