It reminded me of an old financial district gentlemen's dining club of a bygone era. Everything from the ornate entry and the brass banister to the incredible beautiful mahogany wainscoting and old world design. It was a comfortable place to meet, a warm greeting from the staff and excellent service. Lots of draft beer choices, but honestly the best and freshest chicken pot pie I've ever had hands down!
We chose this as it was nearby and it said it was a 'British Pub '. Being a Brit Abroad we thought we 'd give it a try. The Open Table reviews seemed a bit mixed but generally ok. We both had a surprisingly nice meal it was much better than I 'd expected and the Blackened Fish Sandwich really delicious. I was expecting a standard pub fish sandwich but was pleasantly surprised by how well it was cooked, the tangy level of spice, the crispness of the fish (not limp, soggy or rubbery) and that fact it really was exactly what a Blackened Fish sandwich should be. Even the bread roll was nice. The Bangers and Mash were good too. Beer and Wine were ok prices. The server who took care of us was friendly and efficient. We did eat early (6pm Friday night) before an event and were seated upstairs. It was much busier when we left and the noise level was going up. This is the most authentic British Pub I 've eaten in in NYC, never quite the same as those at home, but this came closer to it! My only complaint, is that it was too dark. We borrowed an additional candle/night light off the table next door, so we could each read the menu. I Imagine this place can get very lively and be quite a lot of fun. Would happily eat here again.
My first time at Pound Pence but not my last. The fish chips were excellent, the pub atmosphere right on target, all in all a great place to bring clients or colleagues.
Great place for grabbing lunch, meeting co-workers for a drink or watching a game at the bar.
We went here for a late night dinner after work while in New York on a business trip. The food was okay for pub grub. We shared the turkey burger, grilled chicken sandwich and the sauteed spinach salad. If you're in the area and looking for a lively bar, stop in for a drink.
