Fun neighborhood tapas spot. Delicious foods with open kitchen. Easy to get a table, with outdoor seatings as well. Good vibes. Highly recommend the Gildas, Bikini Hemingway and the arroz meloso de gamba roja.
All around bad experience. First, the noise. The very bright acoustics made it impossible to hear one 's table mates or the server. Anyone wishing to be heard at their table was shouting which just makes it worse. One of the iWatches flashed a warning to the danger of exposure to noise at this level which had never been observed by any of us before. Second, the especially pushy demand to order everything up front is off putting. We wanted to have a few small plates and drinks to start and see what we wanted after that but this flew in the face of the house policy . Next the food was quite pedestrian. Although one of the sauces was notable, the remainder was ho hum and small given the full entre pricing. At $32 what was indistinguishable from a lunch size bag of chips dumped on a small plate and topped by a few strips of prosciutto was as insulting as it was uninspired. The attitude of the manager on hand was nothing less that haughty and condescending. Overall, horrible.
My friend and I had such a lovely dining experience here last night. The staff were all young and warm (somewhat of an impossible combo) and the somm, Darryl was great. She has a lot of charisma and took a risk on giving me an Armenian wine and it turned out wonderfully. The BIKINI HEMMINGWAY…j’adoreeeeee. The sliced duck was good, a tad chewy but full of delicious flavor..the sauce was incroiable. The salted cod rocked. The palates w Iberico ham and plums was ite. The croquettes were divine. It was comfort food. Rich and umami. I liked being there and I felt the food was refined yet not too precious.
Loved everything until our entrees came. Octopus was rubbery and potatoes seemed like they were microwaved. Our Turbot was full of bones. Only one item was taken off the check which I felt was in very poor taste considering we ate and drank a lot and our bill was $600 for 4 people. They claimed we ate most of the Turbot but what they didn’t see was it all on our plates they swiftly took away because it was inedible.
