The Nalser bacher Keller, literally the cellar by the stream in Nals, is a buschenschank . That is a wein stube where the owners sell their own produce, in this case wine and meats and honey. It is about 500 m from the centre of Nals , all uphill, in the direction of Tisens/Tesimo. There is car parking for about 4 cars in front of the Keller but more on the road on the RHS just before going over the bridge over the stream. The Keller is on the LHS but there is only a small sign to indicate that you have found it. As the owners are farmers it only opens from end of March to end of June, then beginning of August till mid December. It opens daily, not Wednesday, from 5PM. The reason to make the journey is to sample excellent home cooking washed down with a delicious Vernatsch wine and topped off with a complimentary schnaps. The service is exemplary. A menu in English took some finding but they did have a 3 year old one, The menu had hardly changed. The menu is short but mouthwateringly good. The Keller is situated inside a rustic farmhouse and the furniture is equally rustic. This is not the place to go if you want pristine linen or musak, but if you like good old fashioned cooking with home made ingredients, at very good prices, then you won 't be disappointed. Booking is recommended at weekend.
Typical South Tyrolean fare, Germanic base with an Italian twist. Everything seems to be homemade, including the wine from their own vineyards. We could sit on the patio below grapes. The prices are very competitive.
