Olivine Restaurant - MORTLAKE

Mild chicken curry with rice and salad was great. Coffee was fantastic - a latte equal to the best we have had.

Stopped in for lunch and was met with a half hearted greeting. We found a table to our liking and sat down for our orders. The meals came out in good time but the food was both not up to expectations from the menu description and I found my meal to of a very poor standard. Go back for a lunch service, unlikely.

Popped in for a late lunch not expecting there would be much left to choose from, however there was a good range of freshly made focaccia, frittata, wraps, felafel and fish cakes. Also on offer were slices and baked goods. I walked out with two huge Thai fish cakes, a lemon slice and a latte for just over $20. Service was friendly and quick, the cafe is well laid out and nicely decorated, it has two sections for dining and the amenities are all ability and clean. There is a single low step to enter the cafe. A delightful cafe in a small town, and a definite yes to re-visit.

Been to olivine a few times and love the fresh food on offer. Enjoy trying something different each time. Staff are wonderful quick service and attentive. Great that they have facilities for children as well.

We traveled 50 Kms to dine at Olivine Restaurant last Saturday for the first time. Drinks were attended to promptly but after half an hour we had to ask for the menu. Another hour passed before entrees were served.The kilpatrick oysters were served on a scattering of rock salt. My understanding is that a bed of rock salt was to hold the oyster in a cup shape so as to hold the sauce, but with only a scattering of salt most of the oysters were laying on their side with the sauce all among the salt making it irretrievable.The main of confit duck leg with Asian slaw was absolutely delicious. The lamb rack was excellent although we must have has the bluntest knife in the world making it hard work to carve.We then ordered desert and coffee We shared a tasting plate of Creme brulee, lemon tart and chocolate truffle. They were delicious with the lemon tart a clear winner for me.We gave up on waiting for the coffee and went to pay and asked if coffee was being charged for because it didn't arrive. The waitress said yes and then said "sorry about that." Surely you have a process where if you write something on a docket, you make sure that item goes out!! I still thought the bill was expensive so asked for a tax invoice but was given a simple sales docket with no detail. I checked their website at home and was overcharged $10.50. Grrrrrr.Good food spoiled by untrained and inattentive staff.I did call to discuss earlier in the week and left a message and I'm still waiting for a return call.
