We chose to have pranzo at Ristorante Dante after checking out the very few choses in the town and receiving a local merchant’s recommendation that it would prove to be “mangia bene.” On the second floor of its complementary Albergo, the restaurant seats about 40 with the simplest decor of any of the many dozens of restaurants we have enjoyed in Italy over the past 35 years. The menu and wine list come hand printed in what reminds one of a grammar school notebook. Nothing fancy here! Well into our mid day meal the restaurant was full. Notwithstanding, the service remained very good throughout. The food was not only excellent —from bruschetta to fettuccine with generous amounts of ragu) to scallopine al limone and grilled pepperoni al agro for me, and my wife’s choosing a comparably excellent sformentino di melanzane dish with ragu followed by grilled lamb the price of each dish was modest to say the least, as was a solid bottle of local red wine, a combination of 1/4 Cabernet and 3/4 Merlot, costing all of 13€. The dinner came in at about 60€, for a grand total of 73€ For both meals with wine. Without any exaggeration, but for the simple decor, the meal was worth double the price we have paid for meals in Orvietto, Alba or Torino, none of which has proved better than that at Dante, albeit the usual 150€ tab at other restaurants usually includes a 50€ wine, somewhat better but not excessively so than that we drank today at Ristorante Dante. P.S. Taking note that another review of Dante refers to “the stunning view over the lake,” the restaurant of my review is distinctly other than that, as it is located in the center of the relatively small town with no view of anything other than adjacent buildings which one can see if near one of the second floor windows.
As I was dining on my own and quite tired I only had one dish but it's possibly the best cannelloni I have had, I am sure grandma is out the back making it. Staff very pleasant, a little noisy as on one of the main streets.
We arrived in the town on our walking trip to Rome. Out hotel receptionist recommended we go to this restaurant for dinner and great views across the region. When we arrived at the entrance I was very weary as it was accessed through a rundown hotel reception area looked as if hotel had closed down), we jumped in the lift and got to the roof top. We were greeted by a friendly waiting staff and fab views. The food was rustice, fresh and really tasty. The waiting staff were really friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place for authentic food don't be put off by the strange access) it's worth the visit
