Sun Luk Chinese Restaurant - Monash

A few reviews on here seem really harsh - I have loved this little place for years. This is a relatively small restaurant and it's obvious they survive on takeaway orders. I believe this is a reflection of the location not the food quality. These are usually phone or web orders so diners shouldn't be upset if someone comes to collect and their food is ready before yours - they probably just called before you got there. If your children aren't capable of waiting for their meal - don't take them out for dinner or go earlier.It is evident that the staff are from a non-English speaking background.. but given it is a Chinese there'd be just as many complaints if they weren't. You can't win with some people. Either way, they speak enough English to do their job and they do it with a lovely smile.Dishes at Sun Luk in my experience are always very well presented, freshly cooked and tasty. Definitely of a higher standard than many restaurants in the area. I love the Rainbow Beef and the Crispy Calamari we tried this time was amazing.

We attended this restaurant for a quick family meal to celebrate a family member's birthday. We booked for 13 people for 6pm. We were the first people in the restaurant but it still took them a good 20 minutes to take our orders after we got their attention! We ordered a Banquet to keep things simple as we were with 5 children and wanted to get out of there within 2 hours. At the same time as placing the food order we asked for 5 x lemonades and water for the table. This took another 20 minutes and only after we requested at least 5 times! At this stage maybe 2 other tables had arrived and they were receiving entrees and we had not received anything! To cut a long story short, after 2 hours our mains had still not arrived and several tables had received their meals before us. We left the restaurant before mains were served with 5 hungry children and 3 elderly people in a frazzled state. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you have more than 4 people in your party as this is not the first time we have experienced very slow service here. We won't be going again, even for take away.

Visited here last night to celebrate a friends birthday as it was near his home. Found the whole experience a dissapointment. Decor is not existent. Staff speak very little english. My partner and I ordered chichen and sweet corn soup which smelt and tasted burnt, found it hard to believe staff could send it out to customers . My Mongolian lamb was so full of msg i could not eat much of it and have been suffering the affects since. There are much better options on tripadvisor so leave this hole in the wall off your list.(if you find this review helpful please tick the box tks )

I thought I would give this place one last try. Silly me. They always underestimate the time for a takeaway order to be ready so when they told me 20 minutes this time, I asked if this would actually be the case. It ended up being over 55 minutes, and when I got home, I realised that they had left out some of my order. This is the second time they have done that.

This is one of our local Chinese restaurants. It serves Australian Chinese meals at a reasonable price.The eat in experience is simple but our children like the prawn crackers on the table and lazy sussans on the large round tables. We do pick up takeaway and the children again like the free prawn crackers. It is not always easy to call you order through so we go in to place our order and then go for a play at the park nearby. The fish in the tank amuse for a short while too. The food is what you would expect for local Chinese - reliable. No msg and several gluten free dishes possible.
