I use 1 star sparingly to accurately describe a problem, disjunct, etc. This is one of those times that 1 star fits. I used to LOVE China Doll when Christine owned it. The staff were friendly, courteous and prompt, and the food was ALWAYS exceptional. Now, since Christine sold it and it's run by new management and staff, it is AWFUL. Nothing and I do mean nothing tastes the same anymore. The sauces are thin and boring, the quality of proteins aren't great, the flavor of the rices and noodles is suffering. Everything tastes oily and like it's been frozen. The spring rolls and egg rolls MUST be frozen as they taste awful and are soggy. It is evident this restaurant is now run and managed by someone (or multiple people) that are absent and clueless. The only thing that remains the same so far are the crispy fried noodles for the soups... This is truly, truly sad.
The one star is simply because the service was good. But the food wasn't worth $19.74. We almost died when we checked out. The buffet had alot of things we didn't recognize. The flavor was bland and the fried rice had a weird taste to it. We will not go back. Definitely not worth what we were charged.
A few years ago, China Doll was a fantastic spot to enjoy lunch with family and friends. However, the restaurant's quality has declined significantly since then. The prices have gone up while the food quality and taste have gone down. The egg rolls are more like spring rolls, lacking shrimp or pork. Sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour chicken must be requested separately, and when it is provided, it is in a very small amount. The shrimp dishes are overpriced, and additional ingredients in the shrimp fried rice come at an extra cost. The portions for dishes like sesame chicken are small, unless you are looking to share. The service can also be lacking, with certain employees reluctant to offer curbside pickup and preferring customers to park in a fire lane. Overall, the only item worth trying is the crab rangoons. With the current state of the restaurant, it may be time for China Doll to consider shutting down.
We stopped in for lunch excited for our meal. The food has always been great in the past, but recently it has declined in quality. It seems that the restaurant has new owners who are trying to save money by using cheaper ingredients. Additionally, the air conditioning was not working, which was understandable but there was no notice posted before entering the restaurant.
