We were staying in Condominio Morrocoy in Ixtapa and happened upon this restaurant on a walk. And the sea food is as fresh as it can get. We ate there twice so far and the shrimp and the fresh whole red snapper and the octopus were all terrific. Nobody seems to speak English but that doesn't seem to matter. Well worth a stop for a restaurant that is out of the way and the hustle and bustle of downtown.
The open-air restaurant El Palmar sits on a corner on highway 200 as you leave or enter Ixtapa. Very authentic food, friendly service, live afternoon music and a great seafood menu. Extremely popular among the locals and out-of-town visitors and very family-friendly. El Palmar has been in this location for about three or four years and has plenty of parking. Unless they're very busy, the waitresses are at your table at once and follow up frequently. The afternoon/evening music tends to be quite loud and traffic noise is plenty. All in all El Palmar is a great place to dine if you're looking for the real thing with all the ambience and atmosphere that is Mexico. You'll like it.
We were a group of 10 when we stopped here for dinner coming back from Troncones and it was EXCELLENT! The food was GREAT, inexpensive, live music. Some of us had fish, Shrimp, Fajitas and Arrachera steak. The beer was 7 Corona's for 95 pesos!!!!! They only had 2 bottles of wine and one of the waiters ran to the corner store to buy more. The wine bottle was 90 pesos a bottle. Our meal with 7 beers and a bottle of wine cost us 410 pesos. WOW! YOU GOT TO TRY THIS PLACE. It is off of the beaten track. Take the road in the centre of Ixtapa that leads toward ixtapa island and head to Hwy 200 and it's on the corner. The service is great, menus only in Espagnol. What the heck, go out and explore. Enjoy! Armando
