The benefits of walking to Mayflower is that the place is bigger, so possibly less of a wait (which is always a problem at Joy Luck Place especially on weekends). Another advantage is that the service on the Mayflower is slightly more friendly... also as far as as asian service goes. You might get a smile out of here. Bottomline, you will not go wrong here until taste and variety of the dim sum.
Since this place is open and I'm in town, I probably ate every other weekend at this place. I think my parents have a tab with them. The dimming sum is always good. If you go around 11ish, the place is packed, so try to go a little later. They're even better for dinner. You have interesting versions of traditional Chinese dishes such as Shark’s Fin Soup in a Papaya Shell. The only drawback is that its quite simple, a humble dinner bill with them, as you want to order everything.
Came for dimsum on a tuesday afternoon with a group of coworkers. overall pretty happy; it’s hard to go too wrong with dimsum foods, but was definitely let down by a few dishes. reviews on each item we ordered: shrimp dumpling ha gow): large in size, tasty, would order again siu mai: also tasty, would order again shrimp cheung fen: one of my favs of the day, super succulent shrimp and great chewy texture spare rib in black bean sauce: savory, tender, delicious bean curd wrapped meat filling: was a bit lacking in flavor compared to other places ive had this, was a bit disappointed : steamed bbq pork bun: also a bit disappointed, flavor was fine but the buns were definitely oversteamed and felt soggy; fell apart easily baked bbq pork bun: so, so delicious, definitely preferred over the steamed ones here chicken feet: solid, no complaints taro balls with meat: not my favorite but that may have been personal taste sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf: delicious, sticky, but not life changing xiao long bao: honestly a HUGE disappointment, overcooked and chewy, thick skin, 0 soup inside—save your money! service was quick, ordering was easy, seating was easy for a large group, and tea was great. will have to come again to try the set dinners!
First time here. We ordered seafood tofu, seafood noodles and clams. Great food and great service! Definitely will come back to their dim sum!
The Mayflower is a great full-service restaurant. They have Dim-Sum in the afternoons and dinner-service in the evenings. They are a great place to have events, and also have wonderful food. That is rarely hit-or-miss. They also have a wonderful selection of teas, and are an excellent example of authentic South-Chinese Cantonese Cuisine.
