My husband and I stopped through Melilli because we have lived in Middletown, CT, Melilli's sister city, in the past. If you have no other reason to visit, definitely go for Vini e Sfizi's fish antipasti! When you walk in, this place looks like a normal bar/rosticeria. But the dining room in back is full of locals enjoying fantastic seafood dishes. There was no menu. We ordered the fish antipasti, expecting a few plates of something simple. Instead we were presented with a seemingly endless stream on seafood plates, probably 9-10 of them, taking from calamari in agrodolce to raw shrimp/oysters to grilled sepia. It was absolutely amazing!!! You must try it for yourself. Prices very reasonable.
We stopped here for a quick bite to eat on the way to Catania Airport from the South East of Sicily. The pasta (with courgette, prawns and scampi) dish we shared was seriously good (in fact, it was much better than other pasta dishes we had in Sicily). The gelato and coffee were also very good, and the service very friendly. If looking for a stop on the way to Catania, this place is highly recommended!
Typical neighborhood bakery/restaurant serving typical Sicilian meals. Started with a penne with spada (swordfish) and eggplant followed with nicely baked local sausage. My companion really enjoyed a luscious, tender and juicy spada. All that, a local red table wine and a friendly server made for an enjoyable evening. Did I mention the glorious bakery?
