The Uleg - Melbourne

The Uleg is an Indonesian restaurant, a nice find on a busy strip of Sydney road.

Nice quiet spot for delicious traditional Indonesian food.

I've been here a couple of times and the food is quite good for the price. Mains are about $10-12 and portions are pretty big.

Friends and I were looking to grab dinner before a gig and stumbled upon this little gem. We ordered chicken ribs and gado gado to share with iga bakar (beef ribs), soto betawi (beef soup) and mie ayam (chicken noodles with soup) for mains. The beef ribs had an amazing charred flavour and the meat just fell apart. The sambal was authentic with a real kick! The beef in the beef soup was also very tender. The chicken noodles were tasty, although the noodles were a tad dry. The peanut sauce on the gado gado was not as flavoursome as I expected. The service was a little on the slow side but very friendly and warm. Recommend this place if you want to try a different Asian flavour other than your usual Chinese, Vietnamese or Thai.

Generous serves and friendly service. A little bit of a long wait for dishes to arrive. Chilled out space and no pretense. Come for the tofu telur and tempeh of any sort.
