I was happy to see a variety of vegetable side dishes on the menu, which would be perfect for my friends with dietary restrictions. I decided to order the Italian meatballs and a side of vegetables, both of which were delicious. The selection of beers on tap also added to the enjoyment of my lunch. A large family came in after me and was impressed by the roast pork lunch option. While I do think the prices are a bit higher compared to other places, the historic atmosphere and friendly service more than make up for it.
I really love the corner pubs in a neighbour hood The Montague has got a ‘local classy vibe’! I also really enjoy the steak night! Four of us steak, salad and chips and ordered the crispy chicken burger (teens). One could even get...horseradish condiment. Service was excellent, personable and efficient. Could read the play... took the drinks order as we sat and knew we where ready to order. All ages where where for dinner from families with old primary school aged kids, trendy mum dads, to your young nana and pop. I really like the family local vibe here. We’ve been here for the random after work dr
This is a local pub no more- no less- with a restaurant that serves below average pub food at more than pub prices. We had been there before food has been reasonable and prices reasonable plus. Nothing to write home about but OK...with good company This time four people went for dinner. Meals ordered were seafood linguine, Indian fish and chips, shared shoulder of lamb. Initial order of a bottle of red wine arrived without a cap or cork and just placed on table- a bit slack and you don't know exactly what you are drinking. Meals arrived linguine mainly peas and a few pippies (clams) pretty lamentable and lacking flavour. Indian fish and chips two small pieces of fish , thin cheap potato fries and a shredded cucumber and onion salad again lamentable and mean decided lack of presentation The shared lamb shoulder mainly bone with a quite bitter flavour served again with chips and a grain salad Overall the meals were mean in terms of quantity and quality of ingredients and lacked any form of presentation- decidedly less than on previous occasions. Clearly now this pub is reducing costs. The problem arose when the bill arrived this is a restaurant attached to a local pub-it generally serves average pub food at restaurant prices a shared chicken is however the shared lamb was turned out to be it was listed on the menu as market price. As customers we weren't told of the price at the time of ordering -a general assumption was that it would be in the same price range as other meals- not double. Unfortunately our assumption and our conversation overruled prudence and the price wasn't requested when ordering. When the price was queried when the bill arrived the response was basically you should have asked about the price when you ordered i.e If they don't ask we don't tell mentality Overall this attitude and the general lack of quality ingredients and little care for presentation (wine and food) leaves you with the impression that you are now being taken for a ride. How low can we go seems to be the operating philosophy of this pub. Will not go back until change of owner.
Called in hete for a late bite to eat and so happy we did. Lovely service, nice wine list a the Parma special was excellent. Highly recommend! Great on a sunny day to sit outside and watch the world go by.
A lovely pub, a great vibe, friendly staff and a fantastic selection of food (best GF in a long time too). The place has been respectfully renovated to provide modern comfort without loss of its heritage charm. A lovely place for my Sunday birthday lunch...and I will definitely be back!!
