Very quiet but surprisingly good food and service! I think the owner must be the same as the Crane as the menus are similar and they also use the same iPad ordering system.
Found this place by luck and we were delighted with our choice. We selected meals from the appetiser selection and we tasted a number of delicious dishes including San choi bouy (?) and prawn dumplings. We loved the innovative way we ordered straight from an iPad to the kitchen. Loved this place. Super delicious.
Unlike Shanghai Street Dumpling where there's a very long queue consistently, Ta-Ta House served dumplings too albeit with lesser crowd. Other reviewers have brought to your attention that ordering is done via Tablets (rather common for Chinese restaurants now), and that there will be two staff bringing the food to your tables once the dishes are ready. The way I see it, hospitality has made way for efficiency. Instead of counting on the staff to be attentive towards the needs of their guests, we in turn have to bring to the staff's attention whenever we want our tea, rice to be refilled, or even when we wish to order further dishes. The place is not something that you wish to linger on. Similar to many other Chinese restaurants, they are good with efficiency, in and out. Thus, there's nothing memorable to harp about. The highlight would be the two persons who are constantly making dumplings in front of the shop facing the street. Ta-Ta House should be doing okay, noting that many punters tend to grab a quick and cheap dinner prior to watching the Kinky Boots show next door. It's reasonably priced. The food is average. It's not terrible. By the way, the dumplings are tasty. However, the skin is a tad thick and dry. There's also the fried version, and what I find lacking is the juice within.
What a find! Great tasting food, quick service. We were looking for a restaurant in Chinatown, and nothing took our fancy. Wandered around the corner and saw Ta-Tas.We ordered dumplings, lemon chicken, beef & noodles & chilli beef. All of the meals were fantastic. Great service as well. (I liked the iPad ordering - even if it looks a bit gimmicky.)
