It 's certainly not your usual Vietnamese restaurant it 's one done with a modern twist!<br/ <br/ We started off with a TEPACHE MATE which was a house fermented pineapple juice infused with ginger, spices and yerba mate. Very interesting and refreshing! There 's no alcohol in this drink.<br/ <br/ Our entrees are:<br/ <br/ SPRING ROLLS WITH BERKSHIRE PORK AND PRAWN: Really crispy and hot spring rolls which came with the traditional lettuce and mint leaves to wrap it in, and dip in fish sauce. Really yummy!<br/ <br/ CRISPY TUMERIC AND COCONUT MINI PANCAKES WITH ROASTED TARO AND CHARRED CORN This looked really cute! They look like crispy little muffins with a lot of toppings! You can also wrap these in lettuce and mint leaves and dip in fish sauce. Definitely need to try this dish out!<br/ <br/ Our mains:<br/ <br/ MORETON BAY BUG with glass noodles, moreton bay bug, chicken, black fungus and onion. I really like the tender and soft moreton bay bug in this dish! The glass noodles went so well with it as it soaked up all the juices from the meat! Delicious!<br/ <br/ 'SHAKING ' BEEF wok tossed eye fillet, hand cut chips and watercress This was some really flavourful tender eye fillet. I think it was a bit too salty for my tastes but when you eat it with the chips, it really balances out the flavour.<br/ <br/ For dessert, we had BANANA FRITTER the batter was thick and coated the banana well. Not oily at all and sprinkled with sesame seeds on top. The ice cream was cold and matched really well with the hot banana fritter. Love this dish!<br/ <br/ Thank you for a great night, Good Nights Windsor!
One of my new favourite spots on Chapel. The space is adorable and food is incredible, featuring very traditional Vietnamese dishes with a contemporary spin rather than the fussy fusion dishes a lot of restaurants in the area lean on. The steamed rice rolls are a must try and have the most delicious sauce. I also love the taro, corn and coconut pancakes which are relatively difficult to find in inner city Melbourne. For a main, I tried the curry which comes with rice and is pretty good value for money, with a nicely flavoured base and generous amount of veg. The drinks list is refined, featuring craft beer and natural wine and great cocktails. Such a great addition to the neighbourhood.
You are absolutely guaranteed a good night (or day) dining at this wonderful Windsor establishment. This modern Vietnamese restaurant is so much fun, from it's kitschy decor, it's epic drink selection, amazing food and fantastic, hospitable staff. <br/ <br/ Walking in to this open fronted restaurant, you are met with a room full of tables covered in bold floral plastic tablecloths, pink palm trees and a long bar area. The atmosphere alone encourages you to have a great time. Greeted by friendly staff, we are soon settling in with some fantastic wine and beer offerings, while our waiter talks us through the menu. As it was a balmy Summer's night, we opted for some of the lighter dishes, and they definitely didn't disappoint. <br/ <br/ First up was the Cuu La Lot, Betel leaf lamb skewers that were fragrant and aromatic, and melted in the mouth. The accompanying sauce was sensational, so much so that we kept it around for all of our dishes. Next up was Banh Khot, mini puffed pancakes topped with prawn and fish roe. Accompanied by lettuce, these small morsels are wrapped in the lettuce, and dipped in a spicy but sweet chilli sauce. Sublime. The prawns were a generous size, the lettuce was so crisp, and the savoury pancakes were a delight. <br/ <br/ We then transitioned onto two larger dishes. The Bahn Cuon was two steamed rice rolls filled with grilled eggplant and shitake mushrooms. This unusual dish was jam packed full of flavour, and the soft noodle casing was the perfect vessel for these moreish flavours. Next we tried the Bo Tai Chanh, an exquisite Vietnamese beef carpaccio. This was probably my favourite dish of the night, as the thinly sliced beef was so tender, and the zesty lime dressing had a good kick, and was just so light and refreshing. One of the best carpaccios I've ever had. <br/ <br/ We were recommended the Com Ga Dac Biet for our main, and we thoroughly enjoyed this family style chicken dish. The platter was filled with a half roasted succulent chicken, homemade pickled vegetables, charred cos lettuce and a green onion emulsion. On the side was a gleaming bowl of rice topped with potato chips. This was such a generous plate of food, and perfect for sharing. The chicken was so juicy, with perfectly crispy skin and the lettuce, with it's charred flavour was also fantastic. The pickles and emulsion added lots of flavour and texture, and were great sides for the dish. <br/ <br/ In between dishes, our waiters remained attentive, topping up our drinks as needed; and I enjoyed several different wines that were matched to the dishes. <br/ <br/ Although completely stuffed, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have some banana fritters and ice cream for dessert. This dessert was unlike any of those childhood memories of thick, sickly batter surrounding stodgy banana from your local Chinese restaurant. Instead, our bananas were coated in a super light and crispy tempura batter, drizzled in a light syrup and topped with coconut and flavoured sugar. Such a simple dessert executed so brilliantly that it really beats some of the more elaborate desserts I have had at other places. <br/ <br/ Our dinner at Good Nights wasn't just about the outstanding food, although that was excellent and next level good. The overall experience was so memorable, from the eclectic decor and chilled vibe, to the attentive and lovely staff, and the fantastic location on busy Chapel Street. We left Good Nights with a huge smile on our faces, and vowed that it wouldn't be long before we returned for another brilliant night.
