The food was delicious, especially the pulled pork which was tender, moist, and practically melted in your mouth. The shrimp and polenta dish was also excellent, with the polenta having a unique mashed texture that resembled potatoes. The ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic, with the music perfectly complementing the setting. The prices were reasonable and overall it was a pleasant surprise. We look forward to returning in the future. Thank you!
We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, and like most unexpected discoveries, it turned out to be a fantastic evening with delicious food. If you're seeking a fancy 5-star dining experience, this might not be the place for you. However, if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, tasty Louisiana cuisine, and a casual dress code, then this is the spot for you. The portions are not huge, but they are reasonably priced. The staff is friendly, and the drinks menu includes a selection of Louisiana beers. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious and affordable meal. I would definitely return without hesitation. PS: Make sure to try Grandma's pulled beef roll—it's out of this world!
After spending a weekend in New Orleans and sampling the city's top restaurants, I was excited to visit Gris Gris in Melbourne for a comparison. Head chef Chris has successfully brought the flavors and hospitable charm of the South to Melbourne. The gumbo is rich and flavorful, with a taste that will impress you. The andouille sausage in the gumbo is perfectly smoky. The shrimp étouffée combines fresh Australian seafood with Southern spices, creating a delightful combination. I was thoroughly impressed. The service was excellent and the bill at the end of the evening was reasonable.
Booked a table for 2 for date night. So glad we came here as it was a really cool venue. There was creole music playing in the background and a band was setting up whilst we were eating, kinda wish we had stayed around for the rest of the evening. The food was really tasty we shared gumbo, jambalaya, a pulled pork poboy, onion rings and fries (wanted to try more! . All was yummy soul food, the jambalaya and gumbo did taste very heavily of thyme (maybe that's the authentic way...? though it was still tasty. With two pints, it came to $75 so really good value..for its location, atmosphere and quality I think it is a bargain.
Looking for some southern/soul food led us to Girl with the Gris Gris. Had an amazing meal. Onion rings with a pulled pork po boy topped off with the New Orleans bread pudding. Doesn't get better than this.
