Cafe L'Incontro is in Swanston Street, at the corner of Little Collins St. A very big piece of post-Modern art looms over the restaurant. The cafe serves good coffee and food on the run' such as panini, muffins and lasagna, as well as other quick...meals such as spring rolls. Cafe L'Incontro is in the centre of the city. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Sunday morning and it was hard to find a cafe serving coffee that we could sit down and rest our legs. After many blocks walking we found this place. It is pretty grimy with average service but I can say that the coffees were pretty...good. Sit outside and watch the world and trams go by.
Cafe is located on Swanston Street near the corner with Little Collins and set back and above the level of the street. There is some undercover and some uncovered seating and lots of birds with associated droppings. It is a good place to people watch...although whilst doing so you need to keep an eye on your food as the birds can be quite aggressive. The cafe has an extensive menu for both breakfast and lunch and pricing looked reasonable. We had flown down to Melbourne earlier that day arriving just after lunch time and had a restaurant booking for that evening so were looking for something light. You pay first and food is then delivered to your table if you are lucky this will be in a timely fashion. Between the three of us we picked two chicken and bacon foccacias out of the display case window and asked for them to be heated up plus a serve of french fries with some coffees and cold drinks. Foccacias, when they came about minutes apart with a token bit of salad, looked OK but the chicken was fairly inedible and the cheese was ordinary. Some full minutes plus later, during which time we made two further requests to be told they're coming the french fries arrived. Hard to stuff up fries and these were OK. Coffees just OK. Will search further next time.
We enjoyed our breakfast here, l had the bacon and eggs my daughter the smashed arvo. Great location to people watch and seating is inside or out, my only complaint would be that the staff were a bit disinterested.
