We go there to get for what they arme famous for, coffee ! The coffee was amazing er had a creme brule Cappuccino and a Espresso and a hot chocolate and all of the three were Great ! The Staff was friendly and very professional! If you like to have a good coffee go there !!
I know and have had a long running likable relationship with Atomica for many years (I was even trained as a barista via their staff many moons ago). I appreciate their recent review on coffee and as I sit and wait for said coffee I cannot help but think over the attempted meal we just sat through. First and foremost my meal of sides was, as hoped good. My friends however have a very diffent tune to sing (note false names for annonimity are being used): Greg ordered a simple ham and cheese croissant, it was burnt. Darlene ordered multigrain toast.. this is where things get interesting. We say something, because as you can see there is a considerable lack of grain action going on with this toast. So we say something "there's no grains here" the manager comes out and argues "there is", poor form in my books. But that's the line the manager took. In the end we ended up with a replaced croissant and Darlene suffering through, that which she didn't order... So now we sit with exception coffees, I just wish the same could be said for both the service and the food :/ Result: come for coffee. That is all.
We tried this little cafe while visiting Fitzroy (Vic) and even though it didn't strike a cord of amazement the coffee was well taken and smooth as it should be, and the food (cornbread with rice, eggs and hollandaise) was good with all the flavours there. It didn't disappoint. The outside space can be a little too tight. But it is a nice spot for a brekkie. Friendly staff too.
This was my favourite cafe in Fitzroy for the past 15 years (the whole time I've been here!) because their coffee was magnificent in both taste and craft. Also, I knew I could get gluten-free brunch here (sometimes I'm a stickler for classic eggs on toast with avocado).I visited for brunch on the weekend and quickly picked up that something was not the same - the staff were different (lovely, but not the edgy professionals I'm used to here) and there were photocopies of cheap specials (weird fried fast food completely out of tune with Atomica) on top of the menu. My friend and I looked around and realised but nervously decided to stay and give it a go. That was a mistake. My brunch arrived with the bread not toasted and not buttered - seriously, how hard is it for a cafe to do eggs on toast. The coffee was 'ok'. It was unsettling that the kitchen door was left open so you can see the kitchen staff working - not in a 'cool open kitchen' kind of way, it was a bit uncomfortable, especially since the man who appeared to be the new owner did not appear to be very happy and kept visiting the kitchen staff, apparently rushing them. They didn't look happy either. It was all wrong.Unfortunately, I won't be back. I'm sad that Atomica as we knew it is now gone. RIP Atomica... you were wonderful, once.
