The fish and chips at Hale Barns are definitely worth the price and a visit. I've gone there four times recently since I traveled in the area, and each time the fish (and chips) has been of great quality. Additionally, Andrew and his staff are very friendly and engaging.

I first tried this fish and chips shop on September 16, 2021, and I was very impressed. The chips were perfect—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The portion of cod was generous and encased in a delicious batter. The mushy peas were good, although I was a bit disappointed with the curry sauce. Overall, it’s a lovely establishment with great service and affordable prices. Definitely worth a visit!

Things get really interesting when they stray from the usual menu and start offering monkfish and sea bass. If you happen to drop by and want to change up your pescatarian meal, don’t worry—you’ll be well taken care of. They also have a variety of options, including cakes and sausages, and the owner adds a twist with chili or curry. I was tempted to give it a top rating for the good catch, but her homemade tartar sauce elevates it just a little more, making it worth the visit!

First-class fishing and chips. rugged cod and squid. both very well cooked, crunchy and not greasy. tartare sauce a bonus. chips also first rate. staff exceptionally friendly and polite.

The good catch in alty or this place? This place! I used to go to the good catch but quality is just dropping of a cliff. This place is a tad more expensive but the quality is 100% better. I can't speak for everything they make as I've only had cod, peas n chips there but I'm sure the rest is good too.
