The food, especially the eggs, was excellent. The only downside was the slightly rude and unfriendly man behind the counter when we went to pay. The wait staff, on the other hand, were friendly. Despite the small issue with the cashier, we will definitely be going back to this restaurant.
The restaurant at Malabar beach has a beautiful setting with a nice view of the beach. The coffee was good, and my daughter enjoyed her vanilla milkshake. Although the bacon egg roll seemed expensive at first for $9.50, it was actually quite large and could easily be shared between a father and his ten-year-old daughter. I would visit again, but it's not a place I would hurry to return to.
I ordered the seafood tapas and it was so overcooked that the fish and salt and pepper squid were inedible. My companions ordered brunch selections and these seemed a lot better. Service was sporadic.
Visited again for brunch with a friend this morning after quite a while. Ordered the same thing I always order - smashed avo with bacon and scallops and added a poached egg on the side. Food came out and looked nothing like it has before. The sourdough was replaced with a sliced loaf, smashed avo was more like a little bit of avocado mixed with a tonne of red onion smeared across the bread. The rocket on top was replaced with store bought lettuce mix and stacked with sliced tomato. Also didn't get my poached egg so we had to go inside to ask for it. I hardly ate any of my meal - just picked at the bacon and the scallops so for $18 I was pretty disappointed. I think the cafe has recently changed hands? And seems like they have suffered for it. I'll just stick with maroubra pool cafe from now on.
Pretty young girls as waitresses but cannot understand basic english - totally frustrating. When reading this think of Manuel from Fawlty Towers. Order, long black with cold milk - receive long black with hot milk, then ask for the cold milk and get skim milk, have to go to the counter to point at what I want. Meals ordered: 2 vegetarian big breakfast and 1 big breakfast Ask the waitress 4-5 times for wholemeal bread on all meals but she has no idea - we state over and over wholemeal / brown - she has no idea. Meals arrive - one veggie breakfast with a white roll, another eggs on toast and the only one that was correct was the big breakfast. The excuse was that the waitress was new, this may be correct but if she doesn't know what brown or wholemeal bread is she shouldn't be working in a cafe.
