Smoky Jon's - Madison

I've always loved SJ's ribs....but the sauce is to die for...I consider it candy..I can't buy in Northern Wisconsin so any time I'm in Madison I usually buy about a dozen or more bottles, both regular and the spicy one too. I've tried to mimic a recipe and have come close. SJ - If you have your ears on...do I recall that you published the recipe in a WSJ article...maybe back in the 80's?

Very tasty. I don't know how "authentic" the BBQ is because I'm not a BBQ judge, nor do I care since I didn't grow up in a place where BBQ is worshipped. I just know that their Saucy Q sandwich, their spicy corn and their brisket taste really good. This is where I go when I want good BBQ on the north side of town.

Not my choice for BBQ. The 6 of us sampled it all and with some small argument this is the orfer from best to worst: Chicken Pulled Pork Ribs Brisket With our group not recommending the Ribs or Brisket. As far as sides go: Baked Beans Potato Salad Cole Slaw Pasta Salad Mac & Cheese Corn Not recommending anything below the Cole Slaw. The corn was especially disliked BTW for its excessive garlic. In general, most of the things not recommended were in that category because they were bland. Everything came covered in sauce and in general that's all you tasted--plus the smoke in the meats. The menu lacks a sampler tray for larger groups, and you cant order meat by the pound for dine-in, so you are forced to order lots of dinners and pass them around. Unfortunately, we wont be back.
