Portas Verdes - Machico

I appreciate that there was actually vegan items on the menu, but a more wholesome meal with more flavor would be a sure winner. We were not full after our visit and neither was our wallet

The options are limited (2 options). I got the couscous and vegetables- €11.50, and while it was edible, it lack flavour. The vegetables (loads of green beans, cauliflower and carrots) were massive. They needed to be smaller. Updated from previous review on 2022-08-31

Great little lunch spot. I was traveling with two vegetarians and they had good options. Both couscous and tagliatelle with mushrooms were delicious. No soy milk for coffee though. Also very close to the beach and parking garage.

We have eaten all over the island over 25 years. Why have we only just found this place? It delivers simple, perfectly cooked, very tasty, good value food and it’s all served with a genuine smile!! The fish soup is delicious and the chicken is gorgeous, tender and drizzled with just the right amount of garlic. So good… my only critique is that there was no sweet potato alternative to chips. HOWEVER, the chips were the best I have ever had on the island, so I was very happy anyway! Yum yum!! We were not staying in Machico, but if it hadn’t been our last night, we would have made the trip back there several times already. Looking forward to heading back to Portas Verdes when we return at the end of the year. Can’t wait!!
