Lareira Portuguesa - Funchal

A Complete Rip off …..Avoid this place. It is hugely overpriced . We were charged £46 euros each for fillets of parrot fish …utterly absurd and a far higher price than our 5 star hotel. We refused to pay the initial bill of 125 euros and only after a further dispute we were eventually offered a 20% discount. Rather than have more acrimony we paid up and left. We will NEVER return Service was pleasant but it is very obvious that Lareira Portuguesa is now dreadful value and is seeking to con its clients.by wildly inflating prices.

Amazing meal. Very much recommended, especially if you have something to celebrate. I had the fish stew and couldn't fault it. Desserts to die for if you have enough room to squeeze one in.

5 star, excellent from start to finish, amazing fresh seafood, great service, well worth the money

This restaurant deserves every one if it's 5 stars. I enjoyed the largest, freshest tuna steak ever. And the vegetables were perfectly cooked and very very fresh. Service was superb and friendly and fast. Recommend this place 100 times over. Price very reasonable for the high quality they serve. Easy to park outside. 5 min drive from Canico.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our local guide, and we were not at all disappointed with their choice!. It is a small side street that is just after the Guinness Pub on one of the main roads in Funchal. We came and the restaurant was full, and we were shown at a table above, but through an open window, so it was nice and airy. We were quickly given menus and asked if we wanted drinks. We met our menu choices and a very friendly and helpful waiter took our order. We had previously agreed that after we had fish for the last two dinners, we would make a meat festival at our last night in Madeira! We started with the sausage and black pudding, both were delicious. We believe that the black pudding?a Madeira version of the Spanish Morcilla) was our star of the evening! It was just delicious! The sausage was a bit salty, but so delilcious! Then I had the ox cheek that came in a small pot, and it just melted in the mouth, with a big side salad. My husband had something from the barbecue grill what he said was also very delicious. Nothing for dessert, we were absolutely filled. Would definitely come back here and highly recommended. Thanks for thanking Portuguese, a wonderful meal! And the bill was also quite reasonable! But book in advance until we were gone, it was pretty much stuffed with Diners!
