But it's been until tonight since my last visit. I was reminded of how much I love the water grill. Everything about it is so wonderful. Food, decor and decor, location in a historic building and staff: every single person coming to your table is so friendly, professional, polite and up to the earth. I feel so comfortable at the Water Grill. I took my mother there for the Mother's Day dinner. I had planned on the tasting menu because I had decided to try my mother's first tasting menu, and WG was the perfect place for her to try it, and I somehow didn't try it here. But found out when we arrived that it was not offered tonight, except the cook would make a special one for us as I had requested it; I had asked to divide any beef, but found that the tm would contain two raw fish items, and since my mother did not eat raw fish, I nixed the tm, it would have required too many substitutions. They had a special Mother's Day menu, so we decided to do it. It consisted of three courses, two elections per course. So between us, we tried everything. I'm really quite disappointed that they didn't tell me about the menus before my arrival. I had made my reservation weeks ago, with the request for the tm, and never knew about the special Mother's Day menu. Water Grill fell on the job. But they were fully aware of my request upon arrival, and our server was very gracious and so everything was good. The food tonight: —Your unshielded Clam Chowder — Lobster soup flavored with lemongrass (it was a bit too much lemongrass for my taste), with lobster Ravioli — Barramudi with couscous: first I thought Eh Couscous, but it was not the grainy way, and it was nice cake, there were some perfectly boiled calrots in it After dinner candy: small lemon bar squares, a kind of candied orange or similar citrus, homemade butterscotch.
On Friday night here with two friends for a DineLA dinner. Here is what I tried between my own order and my friends: Cibatta, white baguette and olive bread: served warm, which was beautiful. The olive oil bread was delish. Amuse Bouche of spicy tuna w. Gurke, pink grapefruit, heart of palm, Roe: Our amuse was really delicious. Refreshment with spicy kick and the heart of the palm gave him a beautiful balance. Manila clam chowder: Good that it was not excessively thick, mehlig or overloaded with potatoes. That said, would like more shells that would have a stronger Clam aroma. My friend who had been there before also said that the bowl had become smaller since the last time. Seared swordfish with spaghetti squash, butternut squash puree, root vegetables, caramelized onions, and balsamic and brown butter Drizzles: My gut sounded so delicious, but not to his description. One of the filets was a bit dry. The caramelized onions that were sweet and tangy were my favorite piece on the plate. Overall, I had more tasteful preparations of swordfish. Purified fish with potatoes and some cream sauce: I just tried, but it was pretty good. The fish was moist while the skin was crisp, and the cream sauce and potatoes gave a beautiful depth. Cheesecake with raspberrydrizzle, figs, apple slices, raspberries and vanilla bean ice cream: The cheese cake was so smooth and light and the delicious vanilla ice cream was a wonderful combination. This was my favorite part of the meal (which is somehow wrong at a high-end seafood place like this. Carrot cake with coconut cream cheese topping: It made a bite of it, and it's pretty delicious. I liked no raisins in the carrot cake. That's a pretty little nap. Dessert Amuse Bouche by pink grapefruit jeles, a pistachio macaroon, and a lemon cured bite: Not bad. The lemon curd bite was a particularly beautiful finisher with a beautiful refreshing citrus flavor. Considerable, especially if you look at the high prices here. 2.5 stars in total. I wouldn't come back unless someone else's dime, especially in view of the limited road parking spaces, force you to pay a $8 valet. Boo hiss! I can have a great dinner with $8 in SGV or Thai Town!!!
The staff was friendly and very helpful. My waiter was very patient with me even though I asked a million questions. The spiny lobster was excellent.
We made reservations here a week before while spending Christmas in LA. from Niagara Falls, Canada. Arrived early and the place was packed. Since it was Christmas Eve and we intended on having a fish dinner what a restaurant. From the oyster sampler to dessert everything was fabulous. A lot of choices and reasonably priced for the quality! Would recommend.
We had a large party, and the orders were mixed up, and they were not sure who ordered what upon delivery. extra time was needed to correct two orders... This made our party beyond hungry. Other than that, it was lovely. Better for date night night, I believe.
