The food and drinks were absolutely delicious—I highly recommend the toffee date cake; it's decadently rich and luxurious. This is the perfect place for a romantic date!
Fresh, local California cuisine with a hidden whiskey bar (Old Man Bar). Unfortunately the whiskey bar was closed for a private event, but we enjoyed a delightful meal in the restaurant. Note that they?ll only accepted reservations for large groups, soit?s walk-in only. There?s indoor and heated outdoor patio seating. You don?t get seated until the entire party is present, butyou can hang out at the bar until then. For the four of us, we split five dishes plus dessert. There were vegetarian options. Iwas told by multiple people to get the cornbread, but we opted for the ricotta toast instead (you can get ham on the side). Notethat the food comes out as it?s ready. The wedge salad is like a grown up Cobb salad, with delectable bits of lardonsinterspersed the leaves. It was quite drenched in ranch dressing, so be mindful of that. The Brussel sprouts were amazing andhad a great flavor. The lentil stuffed red pepper was alright, I would skip it. The Branzino was tender and came as a whole fish- the server who brought it out kindly filleted it for us. We ended with the sticky toffee pudding cake, which I would highlyrecommend. The ambiance was laidback and the patio was really pretty. It?s a good spot for a date or a small group catch up.Credit cards accepted. There?s restrooms available behind the bar to the right. There was a small parking lot that used to bevalet-only pre-Covid, but I didn?t see anyone there when I went. Otherwise, street parking. Overall, it?s a pricey but tastyexperience.
There seemed to be a noticeable disconnect among the staff. When we requested to wait for a better seating arrangement, the hostesses appeared to have conflicting views on whether they could accommodate us. I suggest opting for an indoor or inner patio seat, as the tables in the parking lot are rather disheartening by comparison. Additionally, our order arrived in a chaotic manner, with our dishes surpassing the drinks in arrival time. The sides were served before the mains at a rapid pace, and although we expressed our concerns about the pacing, it was almost comical when the next side dish arrived just five minutes after we were told there would be a 15-minute break before the next course (planned as a three-course meal), each paired with one of our last two sides. We were quite full on small bites by the time the main courses came out. Our waiter hardly checked on us, and when she did, it was only to inquire if we wanted more drinks—not about our food or overall experience. After we raised our concerns, we hardly saw her again. Lastly, the mandatory 20% gratuity felt unwarranted given the circumstances. As for the food quality, it was a mix of hits and misses for a restaurant of this caliber. We enjoyed dishes like the cornbread, shrimp sauce, and half chicken, but others, such as the ribeye and ceviche, were disappointing, especially considering the price. Here’s what we ordered: - **Ricotta Toast:** Delightfully cheesy with a pleasant blend of flavors. - **Ceviche:** Standard; nothing extraordinary. - **Cornbread:** A standout—warm and buttery. - **Brussels Sprouts:** Typical fried Brussels with walnuts—nothing surprising. - **Shrimp:** Delicious sauce; note that it’s served shell-on. - **Ribeye:** Chewy (ordered medium-rare) and poorly trimmed, with some inedible fat and unrendered parts, which was surprising for $80. - **Half Chicken:** Well-seasoned and flavorful. - **Corn Side:** Vibrant and creamy; a favorite. Considering the prestige of Michelin-starred restaurants, our overall experience did not meet expectations. I believe there are other places that may offer better value for your money. It’s perplexing how this restaurant maintains a star given such inconsistencies. While we understand that service can be hit-or-miss in LA, one would expect better performance at a restaurant of this level, making it easier to overlook minor issues when the overall experience is stellar. Unfortunately, that was not the case here.
The service is some of the best I've experienced anywhere. Empty water glass? Not a chance. Leave your napkin unfolded and go to the bathroom? It's folded on the table for you when you get back. The food was creative and diverse and even amazing as a vegetarian. I can't wait to go back.Food: 5/5
Visited Hatchet Hall in Culver City and was truly impressed. Their wood fire dishes, sourced from local farmers, are a culinary delight. The rotating wine selection, leaning towards organic and biodynamic, is a standout. Whiskey lovers will appreciate their vast American Whiskey range. A must-visit for a unique dining and drink experience. recommend! ???. Good spot for friends gathering.
