Not saying it is lax...just not as frustrating and long a process as in other airports. It is a slightly shabby, old, airport but also small and less daunting to go through than LAX. It is located in an area near studios and Hollywood. If you can deal with the oldness it has such an ease to it and it makes flying less of a headache.
Shhhh this is LA's secret airport. For domestic flights, Burbank is your best friend flying into and out of Los Angeles. You can pay for overnight parking about $25/night. You can reserve it and get more info on their website. The Uber/Lyft is easy. It's not cheap overall but still cheaper than LAX. No train that I know of (LAX has shuttles to Union Station). There are only two terminals here, and security is fast even if you don't have TSA pre check. Bathrooms and gate seating areas are clean. There are shops and restaurants, just not too many options.
So have you recently traveled through Hollywood Burbank (Bob Hope) airport ? I did so recently on my trip to Las Vegas. Getting to the airport may and can be a traffic nightmare, like it was for me. Once you get into the airport area, entering the terminal, going through security and accessing your gate is a breeze. Problem here is parking. The economy lots were full, the cheapest one being $15, other lots (higher priced) were also full. Only option was Valet. That is just exactly next to the two terminals. Wow. Around $27 a day. So very convenient you drop off the car and just walk across into the terminal. No maddening internal traffic like at LAX. Once in the terminal and I was at the B terminal, don't expect any fancy restaurants. Guy Fieri has two spots, one a kitchen and bar and the other, a Sammich place, grab and go, kiosk type. There is a coffee joint, Jones Coffee Roasters, that's it. My medium Americano at $6.30. Burbank Airport needs to improve on their services. The seating areas by the gates have no power outlets and cupholders. Really? This is a major hassle. If you don't plan ahead to juice up your phone, you are in trouble. The intercom system also needs fine-tuning....announcements at the gate are partially in audible or is it that the staff is speaking too fast, too much coffee maybe? The airport management needs to also invest in expanding the existing parking lots or constructing new ones. Burbank Airport is a magnetic alternative if you wish to avoid the madness at LAX. Also and hopefully, future airfare prices from Burbank will be more competitive with LAX. This way, more people will use this airport departure point for their future travels. Either way, these are small negatives that are manageable, at least for now. Having said all this, I know I will come back ....to travel through Burbank airport again.
It is more expensive and there are less flights in and out, but the Bob Hope airport really brings me back to a time when life was simpler. If you are flying into the Valley or Northern LA, this is the airport for you. How simple? I can order an Uber as soon as I stand up in the plane and meet it curbside within 5 minutes! Bags are left outside for you to pick up as you walk into the terminal off the plane on the ground.
Hollywood Burbank Airport or Bob Hope is the best airport. When I fly I try to fly out of Burbank as much as humanly possible, I try to avoid LAX whenever I am able to. Burbank is so easy to get into and out of, checking in is a breeze and even faster with apps and the self check in kiosks. Security is normally just as fast, rarely have I hit many lines and if there are any, they move you through fast. Parking if you need to park is not terribly expensive either, but normally I will get dropped off or Uber these days. They have plenty of food options for a small airport, check out Diane Mina's or one of Guy Fieri's spots. I had some of the best tacos and quinoa from Diane Mina's. You can sub the Mexican rice with Mexican quinoa, never tried it, but it was really, really good. Check them out. Of course more expensive airport prices, but at least it is really good and the give big portions. Next time you're flying in or out, fly Burbank and you will be so happy you did. Also, Southwest's Hub if you love Southwest. Enjoy!
