I didn't put any words the first time so wanted to edit my review. This place was absolutely fantastic. I was born in India, and love Indian food and obviously can tell between authentic and not. This place was recommended by my American born co-worker and I was skeptical. I have to say though this place was amazing. Food was amazing, Payal was such a welcoming, warm host. I will be back there when I visit London again, or maybe you guys can open up a branch in Washington DC area. :
Visited 1947 yesterday and the food was good but I left with mixed feelings overall. Venue Upon first site I have to say the Instagram and ticktoks of this venue do make the restaurant appear bigger than it actually is and I suspect is a big reason this place draws in a good crowd, the main photos you see on social media is upon the entrance as per my photo below and a very Instagramable part of the restaurant. Food The food had authentic tastes and was cooked well with service very timely. The flaming prawn starters and coconut prawn curry and lamb masala was exceptional and I would highly recommend. Price I was slightly blown away with the bill upon going to pay and have to say in my opinion it is massively overpriced for what you get portion wise and the prices reflect more a fine dinning experience than a good curry house. I paid £176+ for Two Starters, Two cocktails and Two mains with a side of garlic naan. Service the service was good with food coming quickly and waitresses checking on us regularly to see how our food and drinks were, only snag to this it can cross over into feeling quite rushed. Overall I left feeling this restaurant was good but not exceptional but I would visit again and I would recommend at least visiting once as the food itself is very nice and the staff and service is friendly and attentive.
Avoid 1947 London at all cost unless your are ‘Instagram influencers’ because that is all it’s good for. The restaurant is tiny, it is overhyped, it has tacky interior. It looks nothing like the pictures. The food is average at best, it is overpriced, you probably get better quality food at your local curry house. Not worth £150, I could have had a better meal for £50 My wife and I visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we mentioned when we booked, expecting to be seated at a decent table but instead we were sat literally next to the ‘washroom’ The music was too loud for restaurant. It felt like I was at club and not a restaurant. I appreciate the Dj and the vibe they were going for but this is restaurant first and foremost. You don’t want to spend your evening shouting across the table. You want to be able to have a conversation. They even had a toilet attendant like you have at a club. I think 1947 is confused, is it a club or restaurant? It’s not as luxurious as it claims to be. Lastly the waitress was overbearing, I don’t know if they are commissioned based but every few mins she was asking if we wanted to order drinks etc. I had to tell her I will let her know when I am ready. She was constantly hovering around.
Great food Cool decor but unfortunately Poor service waited 40mins for a glass of wine. Also staff rigid and wouldn’t assist my simple request. They haven’t been open long so hopefully will iron out
