Cay Tre - London

We first visited in 2005 , which was our introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. The food is just as good now as it was then and the staff are lovely!

This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant which provided excellent food for our lunch. It is also very good value, but don't go for the décor. I love Vietnamese beef (marinated in oyster sauce) and this one did not disappoint. My wife had the mackerel dish, which did not look much but was also very tasty. We also recommend the egg and garlic rice and the mango salad with prawns. The staff were very friendly and we were even offered a free drink when they found out it was my birthday. We will definitely be going back.

The experience at this restaurant was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The staff seemed disinterested and we had to wave at them to get their attention. Our starters were served haphazardly, with some arriving at the same time as our main courses. When we asked why the service was so slow (approximately 30 minutes), we were told the kitchen was busy. It would have been helpful if they had informed us of this so we could understand the delay. Additionally, when we ordered water, the waiter brought it but forgot to bring glasses, forcing us to call out to him. Despite requesting plates for sharing our food, they were not provided. It was a chaotic and frustrating experience. While the food was decent, it was nothing exceptional. Overall, it was a disappointment and I am unlikely to return.

My friends and I visited Cay Tre Shoreditch on a Thursday evening after work. The food was incredible, full of flavor. While the service could have been more attentive, we enjoyed the food so much that we plan on returning.

I went here with my two sons for one of their Birthdays. We sat downstairs in the basement which was ok but getting any type of service was terrible. We were there for 45 minutes before we got any drinks at all. When I looked around everyone seemed to have empty glasses with nothing to drink not even water one lady walked upstairs to get some water herself to bring to the table. Our starter came 45 minutes after being seated and the drinks were still not there after reminding them a couple of times they arrived. The food was average the chicken in the lemongrass and coconut sauce was terrible greasy and inedible. To be fair by son had the seabass and it was lovely as was the salt and pepper ribs and the chicken wings. Unfortunately due to the terrible service we will not be back the management need to sort this out the waiters are really busy and are running up and down all evening but there did not seem to be a method to waiting on the tables.
