Visited Udonya Tokoton whilst in Brisbane for work. The place reminds me of a similar restaurant I came across in the backstreets of Kyoto - setup and menu. It can get crowded but I enjoy the wooden japanese setup atmosphere and the simple menus.Servings are small but priced somewhat accordingly, it's not super cheap or budget and the tastes simple and authentic with no complexity.$4-$6 for a simple bowl of noodles or curry/chicken whatever you want. Good selection of side dishes made quickly and fresh. The unlimited tempura dipping sauce is a plus!Worth a look!
If you like a quick bite and in a hurry and to experience Japanese dining then this is the place to go to.Once you get in, will be greeted a LOUD Irashaimase! by the crew - that means 'welcome'.Food are very tasty and affordable. The place is cosy and the decor feels like you are somewhere in Japan.
One of the things I appreciate about an Asian community suburb like Sunnybank is comfort food. For many their experience with Asian food is either the local takeaway, which has nerfed it's chilli or westernised their food, or the restaurant that again has gauded itself with reds and golds to create the fantasy of fine Asian dining while once again leaning their food toward western expectations.Asian street food is so cheap in its home country that a good many people don't bother to cook and it's fast preparation timer and positioning fits seamlessly into the otherwise busy lives of executives, students and otakus alike. And with so many vendors going head to head the price stays low and the quality is pushed high. Asian street food is practical, designed to fill you up and is often built around simple but strong flavours.Tokotan is the reincarnated Mappen restaurant - a Japanese diner with a very broad repertoire of classic and practical Japanese food. Classic curries, soba dishes and beef bowls are designed to nourish and have the minimal preparation time the Japanese speed of living requires. A food heater is stocked with delicious and always fresh takoyaki and tempura.Pricing is suited to the students who live in the area - you can get some of the city's best takoyaki for $2 a stick and a spicy soba/udon pork bowl for $6 and amongst the authentic plywood and timber furniture you could be in any district or prefecture in Japan.Good food, unbeatable prices and a solid, hearty Japanese welcome as soon as you walk in the door - what more could you want?
This place rocks! Service is awesome, food is cheap and delicious - my go to meal anytime I'm at the Plaza. Quick and easy - no fuss, but good food...
