The portions of meals were more than sufficient, we had to feel quite full. We ordered the rib eye and lobster combination very well. I recommend Shizen for a great culinary experience.
We sat outside and the atmosphere was amazing. Food and wine was wonderful. There is a small pond off the patio and it's very romantic and peaceful. Inside looked more lively for groups.
The food here is very good, but my primary impression was that it is FUN. We sat at a grill table with strangers, including families and seniors and young couples, and all enjoyed the chef 's performance. I wanted to add a dish that is not on the grill table menu, and the server was very accommodating. I wanted cold sake, and the selection was very good and the server was knowledgeable and able to advise me. We had a wonderful and relaxing evening. Don 't be put off by the fact that it is a casino. It is off a hallway fairly far from the casino floor with all of its noisy slot machines, so it feel very separate, and has a view of the outdoor dining area.
THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME WE WERE DISSATISFIED IN SHIZEN!! THE ENTREES WERE FINE BUT THE NEW SALAD WAS PITIFUL!! I 'VE HAD BETTER COFFEE SHOPS, THE OLD SALAD WAS BEAUTIFUL FIELD GREENS WITH A VERY TASTY DRESSING, A TASTE YOU WOULD WISH FOR THAT LINGERS ON THE PALATE, THE NEW WAS WHITE ICEBERG WITH CLOTS OF DRESSING THAT WOULD NOT MIX IN!! TASTELESS AND UNATTRACTIVE!! I 'M SURE IT WAS MUCH CHEAPER TO SERVE BUT NOT WORTHY OF SUCH A FINE DINING RESTAURANT!! I HOPE THIS CHEAPNESS GOES NO FURTHER THAN THE SALAD COURSE AND WHOEVER SUGGESTED IT IS JUSTLY COMPENSATED FOR THEIR MISTAKE, I 'M SURE WE 'RE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WERE DISSAPOINTED WITH THE SALAD!! WE HAVE ENJOYED SHIZEN AND THE TAPPENYAKI TABLE FOR MANY YEARS AND LOOKED FOR- WARD TO THE MOVE ACCROSS THE HALL BUT NOW WE WILL RETHINK THAT PLAN. DIANNA INSERRA
We paid over $40 for medium cooked steak. My husband got the smallest portion because the chef messed up and gave his portion to the wrong person. He ended up with well done steak and a very small portion.
