I opted for the miso eggplant (a little salty for my liking) and the stir fry noodles which was incredibly tasty and filling. We also tried the new icy pop cocktail that they had on the specials board that went down like a treat! The service was amazing and the waiters very attentive. Didn't hurt that my Zomato gold subscription gave us 2+2 drinks. Winning! Am super keen to check out Tokosan again, but this time maybe on a Wed night when they have sumo wrestling!
<br/ We came to Tokosan the other night and what an amazing experience !! Not only was the interior really cool and funky inside but the food was delicious !We ordered the dumplings , fish tacos, sashimi , Japanese Bolognese , miso salmon and lava cake. <br/ <br/ Our favourite dishes were most definitely the bolognese , salmon and lava cake . The ramen bolognese was like a dan dan noodle and had mince and eggplant very savoury . The salmon was so tender and loved the miso with it . The lava cake was so delicious, gooey inside with a hint of matcha<br/ <br/ Thanks so much for having us !
We had a lovely dinner at Tokosan on a Friday night. The place is conveniently located just less than 5 mins walk from Prahran station. Upon walking in, we immediately fell in love with the decoration!!! It has a very modern Japanese vibe like the name Tokosan (see pictures). As for food, we ordered Pork ribbies, tempura prawn, raw spicy tuna (temaki rolls), salmon and tuna sashimi combo and drinks. Food came out so quickly and service was friendly. The sashimi dish was very fresh and the hand roll sushi were flavourful. The ribbies were paired perfectly with dippin sauce and it’s an interesting dish. We would highly recommend this place for a party functions or just a chill night out.
Finally came to Tokosan after looking at it for a while. Went with my family of 4 and we all shared a variety of meals. We ordered fish tacos, chicken skewers, pork gyozas, pork ribs, soba veg Stirfry and broccolini. Everything was really delicious and lots of interesting flavours. Would 100% get the fish tacos and pork ribs again outstanding!!
Points for: <br/ 5 7PM Happy Hour<br/ Loads of space: restaurant, beer garden and karaoke room<br/ Daily specials<br/ <br/ Tokosan serves up casual fusion Japanese cuisine, typical of what you 'll find in South Yarra/Prahran.<br/ There 's quite a few different items you could try on the menu, which you could take advantage of on Tuesday 's $29 all you can eat offer.<br/ <br/ I was invited to the restaurant, and sampled a few dishes:<br/ ramen spag bol reminiscent of a dry style tantan men, the sauce has sweetness from the teriyaki, saltiness from miso and spicyness from the gochujang.<br/ For me though, all these sauces have their own salty element, so combined, it can be on the salty side. The noodles were also a little too soft for me (probably cooked 1 min over), as I like to have a bit of resistance to the bite. Nice nuggets of minced beef though.<br/ raw spicy tuna temaki the seaweed wrap should have a fresh, crisp, crack when you bite into it, but this was very soft. <br/ wagyu beef bao it 's like a cheeseburger in a fluffy bao. The slab of beef has a soft tender bite to it. Quite enjoyable!<br/ fish taco the fish had a crunch batter and the shell was crisp. Lots of good textures going, and the wasabi mayo with tartare gave it a creamy finish.<br/ pork ribbies tender ribs, you could suck the meat off the bone like a meatsicle. Nice smokey charred flavour, but again for me, the flavour was teetering over the salty side. Mellows out with the tofu/sour cream sauce though.<br/ yakitori skewers similar to the pork ribs: had a nice charry flavour, and used the same teriyaki sauce.<br/ TFC the juicy nuggets of chicken had a crisp coating. Pairs very well with the mayo sauce.<br/ Nikki bell cocktail very fruity drink, hardly taste any alcohol at all which is dangerous! The foam cap made the cocktail pretty, however there was a lingering smell of old eggwhite.<br/ <br/ So some of the dishes were a bit hit and miss, but generally if the use of teriyaki and miso were pulled back slightly, they would really shine.<br/ <br/ I very much like the space available here, but the interior design is a bit of a love or hate thing.<br/ Some might say it 's cool and kitsch, with artsy 'Japanesey ' elements that might fit in Chinese parasols, manga graphics, Katakana wallpaper and even an underwear vending machine straight from Japan (no, they aren 't used, and the vending machine doesn 't work).<br/ <br/ From the perspective of an Asian Australian, I feel like there is a slight air of cultural appropriation, but I guess in the true Australian way, it 's all just a bit of fun.<br/ Now, book the karaoke room and queue up 'Turning Japanese ' by The Vapors.
