Let's start with the positive aspects of my review: 1. Kwangsin Vegetable Food Court is easy to locate if you know where to look. It is situated in the basement of Dataran Maybank, a large building with the prominent Maybank logo at the intersection of Jalan Maarof and Jalan Bangsar from Jalan Ara. To access it, you need to turn onto the side lane off Jalan Maarof, then take the stairs next to Gloria Jean Coffee Restaurant. 2. The food at Kwangsin Vege Food Court is truly delicious. Among the many vegetarian mixed rice options in Kuala Lumpur, this is definitely one of the best as all the dishes taste fantastic. Additionally, they are completely vegan and do not use eggs or dairy products in their food. Despite these positives, I can only give this restaurant a 3-star review due to issues with their service and business ethics. I can overlook the fact that when I asked in English which of their dishes are vegan with no eggs or milk, I received a dismissive response and no clear answer. Similarly, when my wife asked the same question in Chinese, she was met with silence. Only when she rephrased the question in Chinese and insisted on an answer did she receive a half-hearted confirmation. Furthermore, the pricing of the food was misleading. I expected to pay around 8 RM for my dish, but was charged 20 RM without any explanation or justification. This makes Kwangsin Vegetable Food Court the most expensive vegetarian mixed rice I have ever had in Malaysia. In my two years of living in Malaysia, I have frequented many food courts, most of which were not vegetarian. However, all of them have been honest, friendly, and accommodating when preparing vegan meals for me. It is disheartening that my first negative experience occurred at a vegan restaurant.
1) Kwangsin Vege Eating dish is not difficult to find once you know where to look. You need to turn off Jalan Maarof onto the side road, then take the stairs next to Gloria Jean Coffee restaurant. 2) Dining at Kwangsin Vege Food Corner is truly enjoyable. I have been to many vegetarian mixed rice places in Kuala Lumpur, and this is definitely one of the better ones. All the dishes I tried tasted delicious. Additionally, they are completely vegan and do not use eggs or dairy products in their food. So why only a 3-star rating for this wonderful restaurant? The answer is simple - service and business ethics. I can overlook the fact that when I asked in English which of their dishes are vegan and contain no eggs or dairy, I received a dismissive response. However, when my wife asked the same question in Chinese, she was met with silence. Only after rephrasing the question in Chinese did they reluctantly confirm that all their dishes are indeed egg and dairy-free. This lack of communication was disappointing. Furthermore, when I paid for two mixed rice dishes and expected a price of around 10-13 RM, I was shocked to find out that they were actually 20 RM each, making them the most expensive vegetarian mixed rice dishes I have ever had in Malaysia. During my two years in Malaysia, I have eaten at many restaurants (most of them non-vegetarian) and have always encountered honest and friendly people who were happy to accommodate my vegan diet. It saddens me that my experience at a vegan restaurant was not as positive.
This restaurant is a fantastic option for vegans in Maybank. It is convenient and offers a wide variety of vegan dishes. If I don't have food with me, this is definitely where I will come! Keep in mind that it may be difficult to find parking if you are driving.
