Fire Fly - Kottegoda

This place was recommended to us by friends who also stayed at Talalla beach, it 's just opposite the Talalla Retreat. We first went to check it out and stayed for iced coconut milk lattes, they were happy to replace milk with coconut milk at no extra charge and our drinks were delicious. We went back for dinner that same evening, sadly the vegan special was unavailable because they couldn 't get good jackfruit, so we had the 3 'Nibbles ' of Gado Salad, Tempura Veggies and Bean Bowl. As these were listed as 'Nibbles ' we thought they would be small but each was a meal in itself. The tempura consisted of a good mix of vegetables in a great crisp batter with a surprising caramel dark chocolate drizzle around the plate, they were so good. The bean bowl was full of flavour with tofu, rice, lentils, chickpeas and more with a delicious dressing of passion fruit. The Gado salad again was quite unique and beautifully flavoured. The care and attention put into this food is amazing, the flavours were like nothing I 've had before. We 'd been to Verse in Dickwella the previous night and the food there was not as good as this place plus it was twice the price. So impressed with the dinner we returned to Fire Fly for lunch the next day where we each had the curry and rice (lunch times only) again the food was impressive, well presented without being pretentious. As the options locally were very scarce we went again for dinner and had the same 3 dishes, however the place was packed, we had to wait for a seat but the owner who is a lovely guy was fantastic. We eventually got our food which was just as perfect as the previous evening despite the pressure of lots of hungry customers waiting. They will do well if they keep this consistency of quality in their food.
