Liew Chai Vegetarian - Kota Kinabalu

Food was excellent. Several options available and the staff/owners were friendly and helpful, even if we weren't always sure we understood each other. Went back a week later and still delicious. We went with Mee Goreng and some of the curry that was self service. Mango juice also very tasty. Located in the basement of an indifferent mall, so not a spectacular setting.

The owners understand veganism well, able to tell you which dishes are vegan. And I love the vegetable curry here, it is so damn delicious! They use coconut milk for the curry, which is rare to find because most of the vegetarian restaurants (I'd say 99% of them) use dairy milk for their curry. Thus, I'd give this restaurant a higher rating because of the vegan curry dish!! Updated from previous review on 2021-06-23

We had breakfast here. Everything is vegetarian with most things vegan. Buffet style food in the basement of a shopping centre. All the food was nice but possibly a bit oily. Juices are highly recommended. Prices are reasonable around 8rm per plate.

Once you find the food court seating area for this place, you can definitely notice which one it is! Although signage leaves a bit to be desired, there was a steady stream of people lining up for a plate/box of food at the stall during lunch hour. The food was delicious and fresh perfect if you don't want anything too fancy or could just do with a big plate of fresh vegetables. Had a lot of vegan options and staff were understanding and helpful in pointing out what was available. Plates are priced per item you put on there, but at a very affordable rate (I had a huge plate for 7MYR :

Only open for Lunch but fantastic tasting buffet. The queue was non stop and no wonder as for our 5 weeks in all of Borneo this was the best vegetarian tasting food. couldn't believe how busy it was!
