Some of us ordered a 5-dish menu and were surprised to see that we had to share the tiny portions with each other, so that we got only half of the menu. Honestly, I got a feeling that they did not have enough ingredients so that they had to cut the piece of makrel and the chicken breast into two small halves. When we complained about the portions being half in size as compared to the portions in the 3-dish menu and that this had not been transparently communicated, the staff became very defensive and rude (asking us which restaurants we usually eat in etc. . Their reaction and the tone was completely out of range. So although the food and wine was good, the overall experience was disappointing.
The good stuff: The food was better than other restaurants in Copenhagen at this price range. The wine pairing was really interesting and unusual. Great value for money! The bad stuff: Two waiters for a full restaurant meant that they were really busy. One was very young and had probably only worked there for a week and were not completely familar with the menu etc. The other were quite arrogant and so busy that he did not finish his sentences when presenting the food before leaving the table did not have time to give advise for wine etc. The music was so loud that normal conversation was not easy.
The food and service is top notch. Only downside is that the decoration and space itself is not as warm and inviting as the rest of the experience.
I really wanted Naert to be a fantastic experience. Sadly, my wish was not to be fulfilled. The thing is, that I cannot really fault Naert on that many things… Well OK, there was a missing mayonnaise on the first dish but that error was corrected, and the mayo made all the difference. And., I do not really care for the relaxed kind of service you get these days but that is just me Then why no higher rating than 3? Honestly: Because I did not really like the experience over all. The food was OK albeit a bit boring for my taste, but what really disappointed me was the wine: Neart serves nature wine which I was quite excited to try, but I really and truly did not like it. Also, the place itself does not feel like a restaurant but rather a converted shop. So, all in all: Not that much wrong with the place just a bit boring (It did not live up to my expectations). And which is more: I know of several other restaurants within 1,5 km I would rather visit again.
Tasty food, interesting combination of flavours, beautiful servings, cozy but professional atmosphere, great wines and cocktails as well. After four visits the conclusion is clear: this place next to Rundetårn is a winner.
